The Doom Thread - RIP AND TEAR. (2009-2016)
Everytime this thread pops up, it puts a big smile on my face. Good to see that this is THE Doom thread.
@nickhead:Doom is hope. This was posted last year (oh god, almost a full year??) but let me remind you why we this means everything.
For everyone that missed QuakeCon coverage:
- Fast-paced combat against multiple enemies at once - Doom 3 this ain't.
- Set outside a massive UAC research facility on Mars as it's being invaded by the forces of Hell.
- Hellknights, cyberdemons, revenants, mancubii, and other classic monsters were spotted throughout the demo.
- Classic Doom weapons, including the fan-favorite double-barrell shotgun return. Plasma rifle, rocket launcher, and the good old chainsaw were also shown off.
- Go fast. "Doom is not about about taking cover" said executive producer Marty Stratton.
- Doom is powered by IdTech 6, and will be for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. They are "committed" to 1080P at 60 frames-per-second.
- Wonderfully gory close range executions, including special ones for dropping down on enemies from above.
- Revenants now have jetpacks and can hover about while firing rockets at you.
- At least one weapon, the combat shotgun, has an alternate fire mode, which allows you to charge up and release multiple shells in rapid succession.
- Sprinting, double-jumping and mantling are all possible, making for very fluid motion during combat.
- Enemies can teleport in for old-school style ambushes
- Dying results in a crazy fatality scene depending on what killed you a la Dead Space. Revenants rip your arms off and punch straight through your combat helment.
- Old school mechanics. No reloading your clip, hold as many weapons as you want, health and ammo pick-ups etc. NO REGENERATING HEALTH.
God dammit.
@punkxblaze: I'm gonna screenshot your post to remember this day.
@punkxblaze: Cancelled Doom 4 footage
This is Doom 4 and not the current Doom.
@bigjeffrey: Saw that yesterday. It looks kind of interesting, but not as the Doom I want.
@bigjeffrey: I came here to post that. As someone who really like Rage, that looks kinda neat? Not the Doom 4 I would have wanted but maybe there was room for id to have had TWO demonic FPS's
E3:
Announcer: "From id Software, please welcome John Carmack!"
Carmack: "Hello everyone, pleasure to be here. I'm excited to show you the first public gameplay reveal of Doom today."
*cut to clip of player collecting some armor*
Carmack: "Thank you, and enjoy the rest of E3."
Carmack doesn't even work at id anymore.
Dood, low blow.
It's been a long time coming but tomorrow, tomorrow it is finally going to get show. DOOM will happen. Will you shed a tear? Will you leap in joy?
This was dumb post, but you hyped!!!

It could be this year's dick tits, but actually effective at marketing the game.
I feel in honor of impending DOOM, I can make this video public and share it with you fine people who have commiserated with me for so long.
"On my 21st birthday, my best friend brought me a jug of whiskey as a present. We proceeded to drink the entire thing in about an hour. These were the results, I did a stunningly accurate rendition of Doom's E1M1 theme... if you don't count that I couldn't get my mouth to move fast enough to do the guitar riff."
I should point out this was almost three years ago now. I feel no shame. I love doom so much that I sing the E1M1 music wasted.
You're welcome and I love you all.
WISE FWOM YO GWAVE
@punkxblaze: I like to think that you've been in that fetal position for the last five years

You're not wrong. On a kitchen floor with my shoes on, too.
@punkxblaze Livin' the dream.
@bigjeffrey: I.....didn't either tbh.
Good job id, you found a way to make Doom look bland, boring, and completely uninteresting. Atleast idTech 6 looks nice?
@friendlyphoenix: So pretty much like every Doom game before it?
i kid i kid
I thought it looked alright, just all of the enemies were like let's take all of the old enemies and make them brown
i want bright red cacodemons
I don't know, everyone had no expectations for last years Wolfenstein game and that game was pretty good. I gotta have faith Bethesda knows what they are doing with these classic shooter franchises.
I don't know where all this bitching is coming from. This looked completely fucking awesome. Exactly the kind of mindless chaos I come to Doom for. I'm sure it will wear out its welcome before it's over, but it looks fun nonetheless.
DOOM looks pretty fantastic. It just needs to move a little faster and enemies need to be a little more vicious.

Seriously, fuck this pessimism, everything about that looks like they took the New Order approach and applied it to DOOM gameplay, and looks completely freakin' rad.
Some people are sort of down on "Just Doom". But I think it looks alright. Ammo popping out of enemies sorta reminds me of Destiny. I think it's success (for me personally, any ways) depends on how interesting the single player actually is. The demo they showed made it look fun enough to shoot shit up. But didn't make the single player overall look very interesting. Although I'm guessing most Doom fans aren't really looking for an engrossing story in their Doom game.
That being said, the guns look mostly fun to use. I haven't played the original Doom, and I'm not sure what they're going for weapon-wise in this one, but I hope there are some fun and unique weapons to use. All the chainsaw did was remind me of Gears (although it would be cool if you could actually control where it cuts a la Revengeance). The take-down stuff looked cool, but as Jeff or Brad noted, it looked like it could get repetitive; at least when fighting the same enemies over and over.
The enemy designs didn't grab me that much either. That big enemy at the end looked like he could be fun to fight, but I have the sneaking suspicion that all you would do it shoot him for a long time until he dies.
If there's a bit more to it, it could be a fun game.
@punkxblaze: Please contain your excitement.
Yeah, I was really excited going in and ended up feeling a bit deflated too. It looked reasonably zippy for a modern shooter, but yeah, I dunno.
It was obviously fairly gory, a bit Brutal Doom, but it kind of felt like it lacked the balls to the wall intensity that I think defines classic Doom. Honestly, rippin' guitars would have gone a long way. The demo was strangely silent. The little bit of the E1M1 ditty in the short trailer on GB helps.
When they put out that teaser last year with glimpses of the Cyberdemon, I thought that was exciting, but seeing the enemies in the game didn't have that impact. Not massively interesting designs and a some of the same hues and whatnot, feels like it all runs together a bit. I was hoping to get excited seeing all the classic Doom enemies, but it sort of ended up just being "Oh, there's the Mancubus."
At least music will be bad fucking ass.
Yo @Mick_Gordon is that you in the background of #doom???
