Just started playing, having a really good time.  I chose a human rouge, going to go archer/ranger, just looking for any advice or warnings of what not to do.

Ranger is a good archer spec and I think bard would be a safe bet for your second spec. Whatever you do, make sure your tank can hold the attention of all of the baddies. You will probably need at least one mage in your party and with you as an archer that's at least half of your party that comes under the "squishy" category though your rogue should be able to take more damage than your mage. Ranger is a wonderful spec in this case because you get an extra melee fighter and the bear is especially good at keeping attention away from you. I would call Skattershot the best move in your archer arsenal, it stuns basically everyone without having to worry about friendly fire and it has a decent recharge speed. You might want to also keep your archer seperated from your mage so that area effects don't take out you both at the same time. Besides that I think you'll find your way. Just remember that you can always switch to easy should you so choose. Good luck.

Archery may not be a very good spec for your first time through because the mechanics are either buggy or very poorly documented... Though the game claims agility increases damage from bows, strength is the only stat (or cunning with lethality) that actually seems to increase weapon damage in general.

As far as subclasses go, ranger goes well with anything because it is just adding another member to your party in the form of a pet.  Bard is an excellent choice if you want to provide your group with some good buffs and have an ultra reliable crowd control later on (last bard song) but if you are melee specced assassin would also be a fine choice for personal dps.

Ohh another ranger, nice. Just don't be surprised when your pet starts out damaging you :)
