Those Who Don't Learn From History Are Doomed To Repeat It 0

Seems to me like someone at Techland has developed a zombie fetish, how else can you explain how every single non-viral zombie is walking around shirtless in just their bra? After releasing Dead Island back in 2011, they've focused on Dead Island: Riptide and then Dead Island 2 (until they shipped it off to focus on Dying Light). Why am I providing this brief history lesson? Well, what Techland began in the first two Dead Islands carries into Dying Light. I'm falling through the Turkish sky, onl...

Gameplay improvements can only go so far with a story this poor. 0

Let’s be honest; Dead Island was one janky game. The ‘charm’ of said jankiness could only last for so long, and certainly its finale and memorably bad final boss was not worth slogging through the combat that consisted mainly of the player character waving their noodle arm all over the place. Obvious hesitation came when Dying Light was released, but word of the fun parkour and no goofy combat slowly sold me on making the purchase. The big question on my mind as the game played...

As inconsistent as they come, there's still schlocky fun to be had here if you can stomach its issues 0

Standing on a rooftop in Harran is surprisingly serene. This fictional Turkish city is not your usual post-apocalyptic playground, after all. Beyond the burnt-out vehicles clogging up its highways and the bellowing black smoke ascending on the horizon, there’s beauty to be found as I gaze out upon its deserted streets from my elevated perch. The clear blue skies, glistening waters of its harbour and the orange hues a setting sun casts upon its ramshackle storefronts and cobbled together li...

A Fun but Flawed Game 0

Dying Light is an open-world post-apocalyptic game, with a first-person perspective and parkour-like movement. You play as Kyle Crane, from Chicago, who is sort of an agent for the GRE (Global Relief Effort). You’re deployed in the city of Harran, where you have a mission, which is to recover stolen files from a man named Suleiman, files which he stole from the GRE after they refused to help his crippled brother be evacuated during the outbreak. When you’re deployed, you quickly learn...

    Next Generation Zombie Slicer. 0

A friend reminded me 1 day before it's release that "Dying Light" was coming out... I had to google it to refresh my memory on what it was again exactly. Oh right, makers of Dead Island making "yet another zombie game", but with parkour. I did like what I saw and heard from people who had hands-on so I decided to buy it, mostly also because I love co-op games. (you can play up to 4 people in co-op)I went into this game with hardly any expectations from the combat, Dead Island was meh after all. ...

A few good ideas don't make this zombie nightmare any less boring 2

This isn't an actual screenshot, but it looks pretty cool, right?NOTE: I did not engage with the multiplayer--both competitive and co-op--while playing Dying Light, so those elements are not included in the review.I actively disliked Techland’s previous zombie release, Dead Island. Even as a huge fan of RPG systems and that gameplay style (á la Borderlands), it just rubbed me the wrong way. It felt janky, didn’t offer a compelling story or setting, and was unbearably tedious ...

    Dying Light REVIEW 0

Dying Light (PS4, XBO, PC) - ReviewWritten By- Tyler Pederson It’s hardly a surprise that we’re still seeing zombie games. Tired as the idea may have become over the last decade, it still moves copies. Techland may be one of the most notorious abusers of their undying popularity in our culture, crafting their own Dead Island franchise and quickly pushing out a half baked sub-sequel before passing it off in favor of starting up another IP based the same concepts. Dying Light is their ...

A very polished Dead Island 0

IntroductionDying light is a very well made zombie game that stands out over the rest of the very saturated genre. For basically being a sequel to Dead Island, which at the time was a love or hate game, basically refines aspects of the game while adding a pretty good free running system as well as having a decent crafting system. As someone who was a very big fan of Dead Island, at least until the jungle area, I was really excited to play something similar to it, and seeing what they were doing...

From the Bench: Dying Light 0

Dying Light wants you to like it. It goes to great lengths to show you all the ways it plays like other games you probably enjoy. Look, it has first person parkour like Mirror's Edge! Look, it has use-based skill trees like Skyrim! Look, it has climbable towers like Far Cry! Dying Light wants very desperately to be these games. Unfortunately, the result of all this imitation is that Dying Light never finds anything particularly unique to call its own, and it ultimately comes across as shallow an...

    Dying Interest 0

Three and a half years ago, an unproven developer by the name of Techland unleashed a fun but ultimately buggy co-operative zombie game that was more about campy fun than the grim realities of a world ravaged by the undead. Dead Island was a different game than its initial trailer had indicated, depicting a family turned infected menace in reverse. The morose nature of that trailer is ultimately what the developer's new game, Dying Light, is trying to accomplish here. And while Techland achi...

    Leeeeeroyyyy Jenkins! 0

Honestly, I love this game and you really do have to do stupid things to learn different things. Just try not to die too much as it can hurt your survivor rank. I know some people complain that there is no weapon that last forever and they all break. However, later in the game, you learn new skills and by the time you level up the weapon you have is pointless forcing you to get new ones for your level. Like my title, when I see a crowd of zombies, I shout: LEEEERRROOOYYY JENKINS!!! This so fits...

    Dying Light Review 0

Dying Light is a spiritual successor to Dead Island with a day/night cycle which can potentially change how you play the game. During the day is where I did most of my play time—completing quests, searching for various loot, and crafting weapons. Night time is where you can gain double the amount of experience though, as more difficult enemies prowl the street, but—like most systems in Dying Light—I found myself avoiding night time to circumvent a lot of frustration. There&rsqu...

Dying Light - A mixed bag of a zombie game 0

It's no secret that the zombie sub-genre is pretty oversaturated and if I started listing all the zombie games that have come out in the past decade we'd be here all day. The sub-genre has some very good standout titles such as Left 4 Dead and The Last of Us that are considered to be classics by many but nothing else has ever really reached that same status. So what does Dying Light have to offer in a market that is oversaturated with zombie games year in and year out and can it compete with the...

Review: Dying Light: The Following Enhanced Edition – Octane and the Occult 0

Disclaimer: My review was posted elsewhere but I really enjoyed this game, not perfect but it truly does enhance the experience of an already very solid game and adds some interesting if not necessary components. Dying Light was a bit of a surprise to many. We all knew it was coming, but weren't sure if Techland had learned lessons gone by or if the slight jank present inDead Island would rear it's ugly head, and the novelty would wear off with the team's new effort. Most, including myself wer...
