Any duders out there actively playing Gamma? I could use some Commander names to add to my friends list. My handle is Winterfist
Elite: Dangerous
Game » consists of 3 releases. Released Dec 16, 2014
The fourth entry in the Elite franchise, from the series' co-creator David Braben and Frontier Developments.
Its Lonely Out in Space
@axisandallies: Sure, why not. My commander name is Intern, hit me up.
I'm waiting for my wife to let me buy a good joystick before I pick up Elite Dangerous. But by then, the full game will have launched. I'd say that a good time to ask for friends would be after the game launches. :p
I'm one of those who bought it, played it for a couple of hours then decided I would wait for it to be finished. Mostly because I could see myself playing it to death before it is actually out.
So I am going to join the "I'll be your friend once the game is launched" train.
Commander name is "Delvis."
I'm just getting into the game but loving it so far. I only recently bought into Gamma.
As above I’m going to wait until full release and I’ll drive back into Elite, played so much Elite Frontier when I was a kid looking forward to spending stupid amounts of time just wondering around. Oh and I need to get a stick of some kind too.
I have gamma access but haven't downloaded it yet. The news of them removing offline support kinda killed my immediate interest in the game, though I'm not going to ask for a refund. Had the game been kickstarted as online only from the get go, I still would've backed it, but at a way lower price point.
Edit: I've downloaded the game and created a commander using the same name as here - fisk0 with the numeral 0 (not the letter O).
Hey duders,
Feel free to add me, I'm Corvus Muninn in game. I've been playing since the first alpha about a year ago, so am full of good advice :p!
I actually spend a lot of my time in the PvE group called Mobius. There are over 1000 members now, and we all pinky swear no to fight other players even though we can
I am CMDR David Tacitus and I've just wiped. I'll wash my hands in a minute...
Been playing Elite for 30 years.
@bollard: The Dangerous Duders. *cough*
I'm playing as habaneros. Happy to be added by anyone, would be cool to meet a duder in space. Have been playing since premium beta : this game is awesome.
And shouldn't the Giantbomb group be the neon space lobsters, it was in star trek online?
Cmdr Matthew Auleyhill reporting in. Probably won't play much until late January, should get my cheap flight stick then.
@jaqen_hghar: While playing with a stick is the ultimate way to experience the game, I wouldn't put it off entirely if you have some free time before then. They keyboard controls are surprisingly good and you can start doing some trade routes do get some dosh for a better ship when you've got your stick ;)

At the moment it looks like groups still can't be named, they just take the name of whoever initiated the group. Hopefully that changes!
Is there anything non-combat you can do 'as a group' in the game? I tried it with my brother yesterday and it seemed like we can't receive the same mission. Which makes rolling together completely pointless. Sure you could argue you could help each other out if you get attacked, but I'm not really sure how often that will realistically happen, or if either of us are good enough at the controls for us to be able to fight yet anyway.
I hope I'm wrong in my first day's experience of the game so far which is: Hey, this is like Euro Truck Simulator in space but a bit more fiddly. Sure there's a bit more flavour text to the missions, but I get the feeling it's just interacting with a giant spreadsheet of values. "I delivered that very important data, thank you, you're a hero" "Influence of this thing +1%". There are factions and reading the newsletters as I have for a while I know they have plans for world events where factions can war and the like. Even deciding who gets the throne soon, or whatever it is. How much of that is actively conveyed to the player? Are there 'characters' in any meaningful way?
The trading aspect is very much like euro truck simulator, but there's a whole lot more than that... Just maybe not at the beginning... Think of it as working to save up for the fun toys :).
At the moment, we deal with faceless representatives of the different factions, but there are plans for persistent NPCs down the line... This will add extra flavour when we get to leave our ships and walk around stations etc
@bollard: Yeah, I did play it for some hours before the Gamma updates started hitting. Just wanted to wait til actual release before playing it properly. If I get time I will most likely not be able to stay away completely.
Damn... just remembered I must set up Voice Attack again. At least I got a reason to jump in soon then.
@fenrir: It is kinda like Euro Truck Simulator in space actually. Which is why I know I'm going to love it.
But if you want some tips on what to do, they got this handy image to look at.
@jaqen_hghar: That reminds me - I should get Voice Attack.
@kenobi: Haha I'm so dumb, I was like WHO IS THIS ON MY LIST, then I remembered I put my name up here! See you in the 'verse!
Commander MeatsofEvil sayin' yo what up!
also the default gamepad controls are fairly awful, but moving some buttons around, and using some keyboard commands for frame shift stuff makes it pretty good.
Commander GeneralBison
Add me!
@meatsofevil: Even a cheap old flight stick from the early 2000s greatly improves the gameplay experience, pick one up, doesn't need to be a fancy Saitek
CMDR Bane Six Echo
Frontier has said the February and March updates will add various multiplayer components so now may be the time to start filling out your friends list!
