I personally am going for hardcore mode. I like games that make survival feel as real as possible. If you don't know hardcore modes makes you have to drink and eat to survive. Also ammo has weight and stimpacks take time to heal rather than just the instant heal. I also believe you cannot inject stimpacks into a single limb. So whats it gonna be?

EDIT: I was curious cause someone brought it up. Does hardcore mode just enable the survival stuff but you could still play on normal? If anyone knows please let me know =)

Well, I was planning on playing it the normal way the first time, and then hardcore during my 2nd playthrough, but uhh... I think I've changed my mind and am doing it in the opposite order. Hardcore first, normal second.

Still, I'm worried that the hardcore mode won't further the game's level of immersion as much as I'd like, but regardless, I can't wait to play this game.

I enjoy the survival aspect of STALKER a whole lot. So Hardcore for me, whenever I decide to play it.

"Hardcore" usually means that, if you die, your character gets deleted and there's no way to restore it.  If "Hardcore" just means "Really hard and more realistic" and not "Your 50+ hour game is burned to dust because your video card got hung up on the waterfall animation", then I might be interested.

    Hardcore achievement is confirmed.

I want to try both, but I haven't decided on whether to begin on Hardcore or Normal...

Also, wasn't Hardcore mode just a toggle, meaning you can play the game on Very Easy and Hardcore at the same time? Or Very Hard and Hardcore, etc.

Really? It was very easy once you had good perks, gear and weapons (and a companion or two) even on the hardest difficulty, but at the start of that game I ALWAYS played on an easier difficulty setting because it was so damn hard to achieve anything without those things.

What kind of character did you play as to make it so easy?

Well, Fallout 3 was my first real swim in the pool of role playing games(well, Mass Effect was, but that's a different animal if you ask me). So I'm not sure. Is there any information on how often you have to maintain yourself? And what exactly you have to do? Eat, sleep, toilet? lol

When I get around to playing the game, pretty sure I won't buy it at launch, I think I will play it on Hardcore, actually seems like it would be more fun that way.

I'll be starting on hardcore because it seems much more immersive, but I'll probably get extremely frustrated and start over on normal.

@DragonBloodthirsty: Hardcore in New Vegas isn't like Hardcore in Diablo 2, where your character has permadeath. In New Vegas it just adds more survival aspects, such as bullets having weight, the need to eat and drink to stay alive and Stimpacks not instantly restoring health, but rather restoring it over time.

I'm excited to give harcore mode a shot - as others have said, for it's immersive potential.

Can't really tell if I'll stick with it or not until I play it and get a real sense of how brutal it is.

Well, it depends if food and drink is scarce or evenly spread throughout the game. If it was as scarce as purified water in Fallout 3, then it will be a real pain to have to go back in the middle of each quest to get a drink. If drinks can be found in reasonable amounts, then hardcore sounds fun!

Hardcore sounds like a great idea but requires alot of input and effort, where as I just want to play the game. As the name suggests I reckon its best suited for the hardcore fans of the game.

Its going to be a great addition to the game and will help immerse the players further, but still maybe a little much for the folks who just want to play through the story.

    Hardcore

I went through Fallout 3 on Very Hard, and still had to throw in my own restraints to make it more awesome. Like never using stimpacks so I would actually put the plumbing in the game to some use. I'm normal like that.

Hardcore sounds interesting, but I might pass at first.  I don't want to get bogged down with survival aspects of the game.  I'd rather enjoy just the "story" aspect of roleplaying.

I did think that Fallout 3 was on the easier side, but I do enjoy the feeling of being a little too powerful and head shotting super mutants like a champ.

I usually go for the easiest mode the first time around. Just so I can check out the story without being frustrated. Then, if there's achievements or trophies for it,  I'll replay it on a harder difficulty.

I'll definitely play through it on hardcore at some point, but maybe not on my first character.  I'm not sure how the weighted ammo is going to play out...FO1 and FO2 had weighted ammo and it wasn't a problem, but the weapons in those games didn't degrade over time.  In Fallout 3 all the weight you saved in ammo was immediately taken up by carrying around extra weapons to repair your gear.

I think I'll probably start off with hardcore difficulty, and switch to normal if weighted ammo starts to annoy me.
