I really, really enjoy this game, but I can't figure out why this has the Far Cry name on it? I can't find anything that connects this game with others of the franchise.
Far Cry 2
Game » consists of 16 releases. Released Oct 21, 2008
The sequel to the original Far Cry dispenses with Jack Carver, and moves the action to a war-consumed Africa complete with an open-ended storyline involving civil war, several hours of missions, heated gunplay, and a slew of dynamic elements powered by a new engine.
Why is this called Far Cry 2?
" @Redbullet685 said:That's about when I stopped playing. It was a really great game. Someday I might return to Africa. Someday." You like Far Cry 2?!?!?! Are you mad?? "I freakin' loved that game until the save system shat itself. Brilliant game, horrible bugs. "
It uses a dunia engine that's heavily modified from the first far cry engine, so they called it far cry 2. Of course don't quote me on that because I haven't confirmed this to be 100% accurate, however it's something you can look into.
"Far Cry 2's engine is definitely the Dunia, but I can't confirm any lineage to the first Far Cry's engine. I would have guessed that Far Cry used the original CryENGINE though. It uses a dunia engine that's heavily modified from the first far cry engine, so they called it far cry 2. Fuck, I might play some more in the future, but man is driving a bitch. Especially when I drive so recklessly that my car gets stuck and I have to sprint all over the place in the goddamn desert.
"You should try staying off the roads. I find it gives you a better chance of getting the drop on the enemies, or even avoiding them entirely.

"I can do that while on foot, but it's kinda hard to drive off the paths. Especially when I keep on looking at my map because I'm scared of getting lost. But it's something I'll keep in mind next time I play, thanks.
It could be said that the openness of Far-Cry is itself a theme and that FarCry 2 is using the name to invoke the idea of that openness to the consumer.
...Which of course boils down to money.
I like Far Cry 2 as well (people really need to play it more to enjoy it), and I think it has that name because since Ubisoft bought the Far Cry name and license they were able to call this game Far Cry 2, without it having to be a direct sequel with Jack Carver and what not. Also, it was probably marketing, but I find it hard to say that that's what it was since it wasn't that popular. It was just well revieved critically. At first I was very, very dissapointed it wasn't a sequel, but just recently this year I played it again after my initial thought when it came out on release date, and I really really enjoy the game even though I don't see a lot of story in it.
