I was just planning on buying this, but after seeing the replies here, maybe I'll hold off. Absolutely one of my favorite games on the 360, and I'd love to revisit it, but corrupted saves on this dense of a game is a no-go for me.
A quick search gives me the impression it's a bit of a fire on both platforms. It's a heartbreaker for the re-release of this game to be treated this way.
So, whenever the game tried to connect to the EA servers, maybe 80% of the time the game would crash.
20% of the time, I’d get an error stating that the EA servers aren’t available. I’d then be able to play offline.
Last night after 8pm or so, I was 3 for 3 in starting the game and getting online. I played with my kid for a while, no problems. I’m hoping a server-side patch was deployed, and that it wasn’t just dumb luck.
Note: I’m still using my original save file.
Extra aside: My license photo was a blank profile photo up until last night. Now it’s my gamer pic, or whatever they’re calling it these days. I’m wagering EA pulls that photo from some Live servers...
@hatking: I skipped Paradise back in 2008, so it’s all new for me. Losing a save file this early doesn’t feel like a big deal.
I feel like I’m still learning the map, getting an idea of how events work, etc. So if I have to redo a dozen events and earn back some cars, it’ll still be fun (and hell if I know what I have and haven’t done yet...it seems repetitive and fun so far).
@nutter: That's fair. It's a thiiiick ass game though. What if like 40 hours in you lose a save? Some of the stuff in the tail end of the game gets kind of tough, and I'd hate to lose all of that over a bug. I'm seriously considering just taking the risk and getting it, that's how good I think it is.
Anyway, I'm glad this remaster is bringing new people in. That's honestly the best thing I could have hoped for out of this. When you start getting into the online challenges, you're in for a treat.
I actually was one of the strangers @jeff played with back in 2008. I was very surprised when I saw him join the game I was in to do random challenges. I think he may have still been GameSpotting at the time. Once I had the luck of randomly playing with him, I was able to use Xbox Live's recent players list to join his games in the future. Maybe that was a little Swimfan. Sorry. I was also in a weird spot when that game came out, so it was distracting me from life, and shooting the shit with a dude whose podcasts got me through a lonely first semester of college was a big deal to me. For a few days I was able to pop into games with Jeff and other random people to knock out challenges. Still one of my more fond gaming memories.
Cornball shit incoming: thanks to all you folks for swapping Road Rules and crossing off challenges with me. Going back to Burnout Paradise is a fine thing on its own, but having others there blasting through town (asynchronously or otherwise) makes it even better. Big thumbs up to us all!
