As promised, Nintendo has a shitload of stuff for people to spend their coins on before the service goes bye bye. Rewards range from posters, cards, calenders, carrying cases, as well as downloadable titles, from Virtual Console games to full retail releases like Wonderful 101 and Kid Icarus Uprising. Unfortunately Club Nintendo is being completely destroyed right now so by the time us regular folk can get on all the physical stuff will probably be out.

Also interesting to see Doc Lewis Punch-Out!! on there since previously the only way to get it was through being a platinum member back in 2009(?).

correct. pretty sure there is a quick look of it. might be better just to watch that and save your coins for a full game

That Majora's Mask bag is pretty tempting. I'm short a couple hundred coins though.

Guess I'll pick up Super Metroid or Earthboumd when the site decides to load...

edit: FUCK. Golden Sun too? For some reason, I've been itchin to replay that lately. I've got some serious decisions to make here.

I remember they played it kinda terribly, since none of them played much of the Wii Punch-Out, and their ability to pick up on boss attack patterns that aren't ones they already know from original Punch-Out was kinda nonexistent. Frankly, I'm considering getting it, since all of those NES Virtual Console titles can piss off, because I already bought the handful of NES games that aren't garbage back on the Wii. For me, it's between Doc Louis Punch-Out!!, and some of the eShop indie games for 3DS, and the various download codes for retail games for 3DS and Wii U.

It's kinda crazy value-wise that they're giving away download codes for retail games. Stuff like Game Boy Games costs around $5 USD on the eShop or 150 coins on Club Nintendo, but they're giving away downloadable retail games for like 600 or 700 coins which means they're only valuing them at like $20. Which is a good deal on 3DS games, and a crazy deal on Wii U games. Granted, the Wii U games seem to all be under performers, while the 3DS games are somewhat better though they're all from like the launch year of the 3DS or pretty close.

Also, Club Nintendo site is down currently? So yeah, I expect most of those physical rewards will sell out immediately because there are a bunch of weirdo Nintendo collectors that seem super obsessive about buying all of the junk that Nintendo puts up there (this round of junk seem slightly better, but it's still mostly stupid junk unless you really want a t-shirt or messenger bag or something). I'm fairly certain the greeting cards will still be left, because even collectors don't want those (or they already got their one copy of them for their collection like fucking 2 or 3 years ago when Nintendo first made that reward available).

Don't worry, you have until something like March 31st to register any games you still have kicking around, and I think you have until June 30th to spend all your coins (after that date your coins and Club Nintendo cease to exist). But yeah, if you were hoping on ordering any of the physical rewards, a lot of those may already be sold out when the site comes back up, because there are weirdo Club Nintendo collectors that want to get 1 of everything even if it's total garbage. Which I'm fine with them doing when it's total garbage (like the greeting cards), but they're also the same people that made the 3DS XL charging cradle reward sold out in like a day or two and then Nintendo inexplicably never restocked it.

I'm happy that they offered some good downloadable stuff. I got one physical thing that was good, and it was the 2011 or 2012 (I don't remember which) calendar with the really good artwork for each month.

I mean, yeah, of all the things available, that is going to be the rarest going forward. All these Virtual Console and eShop games will still be available later for money, but fucking Doc Louis' Punch-Out is this weird thing that Nintendo had Next Level make that they seemingly never plan to make publicly available except through weird Club Nintendo channels.

Though if somebody never played Wii Punch-Out then I don't know if they're going to get quite as much out of it. It honestly should've just been DLC for that game, or some weird pack-in if you buy the Wii U port of Punch-Out.

I think it's kind of fucked up that they aren't offering a single Kirby game. Maybe they want people to be hungry for Kirby games so that people buy that Rainbow Curse game on the Wii U? Now that I say that, that seems like the only thing that makes sense.

Seriously though, throughout the past year or so, I noticed they were constantly rotating in Kirby games because they must really be underperforming on the Virtual Console (the number of times they offered a Mario or Zelda game free through Club Nintendo was almost nonexistent). Kirby's Dream Land 1, Kirby's Adventure, Kirby's Pinball Land, you name it. Everything but Kirby's Dream Land 2, which is the one that I'd actually like to get.

Also a bummer that I guess they can only give away Nintendo stuff for free. Wouldn't have minded picking up some Mega Man VC games.

Yeah, it's basically the same as any other year, except they're bumping the deadline up a lot sooner:

In order to reach Elite Status, you must earn 300 Coins (for Gold Status) or 600 Coins (for Platinum Status) between July 1, 2014 and March 31, 2015. Members who reach Elite Status will be able to choose a downloadable game from a wide selection of Nintendo 3DS and Wii U titles. Your free Elite Status gift will be available between April 1 and April 30, 2015. A list of the Elite Status 2015 gifts will be posted here once announced.

http://club2.nintendo.com/program-notice/

It sounds like you might just be able to take your pick from a list of 3DS and Wii U games similar to the current giant list on Club Nintendo? Or maybe they're holding some games back from the current list, and they're going to be some special shit that only the Gold/Platinum people get access to? I have a hard time imagining what that would be, because they're already giving away like all of the VC and eShop games I can think of that matter aside from the obvious lack of Kirby. So it may just be that you get your free pick of any one game or something.

Anyway, my suggestion to people would be to get physical rewards now because they may run out of stock, but don't spend coins on any VC or eShop games until April when we know what the Gold/Platinum status will get you. There's still plenty of time from April 1 - June 30 to cash in all your coins for various eShop and VC games.

I'm pretty bummed that I'm 20 Coins short of those new Smash Bros posters. But the time I get those Coins, it'll be to late, and I'll get stuck with Wonderful 101 or some Virtual Console games. Or worse, NES Remix.

Edit: I checked, and my Wii U doesn't have enough space left to fit Wonderful 101, so that's out. I'm not ready to delete Tropical Freeze yet.

Is there any indication that Nintendo Europe is going to do this? I've banked over 1500 stars with 3 games left to register, but it's just the same shit on there it's been for the last year or two. Is there any update on this?

I had about 1800 coins because the only things I've ever bought on there were the two Game & Watch DS games and a DS case or something. So, I got the Link puzzle, the Zelda DS pouch thing, and the 18 cartridge case.

Since I bought my WiiU and a handful of games it turns out I have 3,400 coins just sitting there, hopefully Europe gets a similar deal then because I could end up with a nice haul of WiiU games and a few classics I've never tried.

And you thought the US was getting a raw deal compared to Japan. Europe still has the same crap we had for several years at this point, and I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't change until the service dies.

EDIT: Hang the fuck on, if I lived in America I could buy TWO FULL 3DS GAMES with my 1500 points. Here in Europe what do I get?

FUCK ME. People were saying you can't even access the Wii online store, so why the hell can I still get points cards for it?! At least I can get these sick ringtones. Jesus.

OF COURSE these all go up about three days after I buy Earthbound for full price.

Considering I have 575 coins I need some help deciding what I should get, I've got it down to:

A Link to the Past

Majora's Mask

Golden Sun

Super Punch Out!!

Super Mario World

NES Remix

My coinage can only get me two, and I don't care about the physical rewards so which two should I get?

I'm pretty bummed that I'm 20 Coins short of those new Smash Bros posters. But the time I get those Coins, it'll be to late, and I'll get stuck with Wonderful 101 or some Virtual Console games. Or worse, NES Remix.

Edit: I checked, and my Wii U doesn't have enough space left to fit Wonderful 101, so that's out. I'm not ready to delete Tropical Freeze yet.

Try downloading Rusty's Real Deal Baseball (3DS) Steel Diver: Sub Wars (3DS) Pokemon Bank (3DS) Zen Pinball 2 (Wii U), those are all free and give points.

@bollard: The Wii online store works just fine. The guy in the other thread was mistaken, and he couldn't access it for weird internet reasons or something.

But yeah, it's a bummer that Club Nintendo varies so wildly from region to region. It sounds like they're killing Club Nintendo to replace it with a loyalty program that hopefully is more consistent across the different continents. And hopefully it will have better rewards than fucking ringtones and screen savers and greeting cards.

@dprotp: I don't have a 3DS, but Zen Pinball is a good idea!

@bollard: If it makes you feel any better this is the first time in a long while that Nintendo updated their catalog where people in the US actually gave a fuck. I'd been sitting on 450 points for close to a year and a half and I remember the only game that was consistently on the prize list was Grill-Off with Ultra Hand for Wii.

I used those points to get me the 2015 3ds carrying case.

I've got an unopened copy of Pokemon Omega Ruby that I haven't registered yet if you want it. I'm at 600 points so another 30 isn't going to do a whole lot for me.
