True, But I only pay $60 for my XBL subscription and get a hell of a lot more out of that, Than I will from this. $50 for very little difference is just to much. I would love to help support GB but I just can't justify $50
Oh wow, they're breaking up the podcast for non paying members. It will be more like how demos are served on Xbox Live.
Everyone has access to the 1st hour of the podcast on tuesday as soon as it goes up. Non-paying users have to wait till next week to hear the 2nd hour. Subscribers will have access to the entire podcast on day one.
Podcast is too bandwidth extensive and basically is bleeding money, so they're doing this instead of not doing the podcast at all. It won't be affecting other services, but I imagine the 720p to be bleeding bandwidth out also.

That is a terrible example. You proved that there are only so many subscriptions one can afford, and there are many including FigureFourWeekly. A CD is not 40 minutes worth of entertainment, unless your CD's explode after listening Inspector Gadget style.

They justify it as there is 8 man hours taken recording it (2hrs each person) then editing etc so it comes to about 14 man hours. All the downloads also suck bandwidth and they can't sell advertising on podcasts.. so, they don't get anything about such a long podcast.
They also go on to say that the first hour is free to everyone, the full two hours is for subscribers (and the bits shuffled around so there is less banter in the first hour). Right but what I'm saying is a CD is 40 minutes long. You can listen to that over and over, I know. A podcast is 2+ hours and you can listen to that again as well.
I'm still in a wait and see mode. The exclusive show stuff worries me. A kind of have and have not rift in the community could arise. Maybe they should make it exclusive live, but free members could watch it later for free, kind of like how demos work on Xbox Live.
@FluxWaveZ: In the Membership Podcast they mentioned that they are going to cut the bombcast after the first hour, and release that to everyone. They are then going to upload the full thing for paid members only, and then after about a week they are going to release the full thing to everyone.
As I said, I dont think cutting there podcast for the free users is a good idea, i understand its a lot of time, but still.... I dont wanna wait a week to get the full 2 hour thing
People need to chill the fuck out and listen to the podcast, they justify everything really well. TAKING AWAY CONTENT? No, they release the full bombcast a week late.
I'm in the UK, so don't know what the tshirt situation will be like for us across the atlantic. However the ability to download all the video is something I've been wanting for a while. Also the full Bombcast and the live show are also draws

Haven't listened to the podcast yet but $50 is pretty high for hd video and a better mobile app. IGN hd video/exclusive features shits is like 20 a year right? majority of video content on this site is handycam style (which wont benefit from hd much) or game trailers..which i can use gametrailers for. I dunno, for $20-30 id be down first day, but $50 im still on the fence.
awww i don't think i will be buying it. maybe if it was cheaper, i don't really have great internet for that. i don't watch things in HD because usually takes a while for it to download and i don't have a phone that can get on the internet.
Wait, wait... That Bombcast split-up is legit? GODDAMMIT. Argh. How will that even work with iTunes? Will it only be downloadable directly from the site now (for paying members)?
@Laketown: It costs money when you got the 500,000 downloads a week. Just wait a week delay or pony up your support. Lots of podcasts charge and the Bombcast is one of the highest quality.
Also, admitting to pirating media from the site while on the site isn't the best idea.
If I'm gonna jump into this subscription, might as well go yearly. I'll take a free T-shirt and the other extras for $50, but don't get all Microsoft next year and jack it up $10.

when did I admit that? I'm saying people could (and most likely will). It's just a little fragmenting and they're going to be losing a lot of listeners, more than likely. I would totally take the most annoying ad based site imaginable than splitting up the bombcast.

I'm not sure about any video game podcasts that charge money, but the Bombcast is one of the best ones out there. Really, I'd pay for this immediately if I had the money given how much entertainment I get from this website, but I can't pay for it right now, especially since there's no Paypal support.
What are GiantBomb's plans to combat the various browser addons/plugins which allow you to download anything and everything and block ads/flash/unwanted content?
Not a fan of the split bombcast even though I'll be subscribing just because I can't just get it through my wireless zune sync now I have to manually download and connect :/ more bummed about how mad some people seem to be though.
well i kinda called this. At least its not a permanent paywall for the podcast. Only a timed paywall. But it is still a paywall. I gotta be honest. I think i will be turning adblock back on and will start looking for a torrent source for the full podcast early and/or the liveshow. But i dunno. This is not good. I like giantbomb a little less today i think.
