I'm not saying IV, VII, or IX aren't great, but in my mind, it's all been down hill since the days when that lovely 16-bit ensemble cast fought a mad clown who killed the world.
@JJOR64: I wouldn't say fail. Just probably made by someone either born after 1990, or was one of the uninitiated before VII. They know not what they do.
My favorite will probably always be FFX. Playing through it all summer with my friend while consuming an insane number of popsicles is one of my fondest memories as a gamer. I am so biased towards that game that I can't even imagine giving any other Final Fantasy game a chance to be #1.
I'm horribly generic and picked VII. It was the first Final Fantasy I played it still holds my favourite cast of characters. IV and VI were both amazing though.
Just because you're not old enough to know the games from before Final Fantasy 7 it don't mean that they shouldn't be on here! :( You're tearing us apart with this dumb poll that lacks all the other good Final Fantasy games!
The omission of FFVI is bold, but Final Fantasy VII is still my favourite. And not just for nostalgic reasons. The music was great, the world was wonderfully realised in a way that few other Final Fantasy's have been (VI, IX and XIII come damn close though), and the fact that the graphics have aged terribly, and that the writing was typo-ridden and sometimes way too goofy for it's own good doesn't diminish the experience enough to count.
