What games have you played that you want developers publishers to not make into franchises (not because they were bad games)?
For me I'd say Brutal Legend, I was surprised to hear there were even plans for a sequel.
EDIT: I should have mentioned, it has to be a stand-alone game, not a franchise.
Games That Should Not Have Sequels
Final Fantasy IV. Here's why.
Final Fantasy games (and add the 'spinoffs' of KH too I guess).
I thought the idea of each FF game was that they were each their own contained story. It seemed to work fine. However, just looking at what they did to FF7 and the KH series makes me weep. Not all the games were bad mind you, but when you keep pumping out titles for stories that honestly don't need it, the originals lose their magic.
Jade Empire. There's been rumours floating around about a sequel for years, but it's the only Bioware RPG I really didn't like.
" inb4 All of them That said, I feel a direct sequel of Deadly Premonition would be...difficult to make. "Shane Bettenhausen said that if they made a new one it would probably be a prequel.

I just assumed it was him blah blah blahing.
I stand corrected :)

Only from the gameplay perspective.
Crackdown 2! I almost think Left 4 Dead 2 should not have happened. I almost feel like they should have taken that game and released is as a huge expansion pack to the original like they used to do with games. So you've got the original Left 4 Dead, and then Left 4 Dead 2 as an expansion that adds a lot of great stuff, and hopefully mixes that into the original. They are starting to treat Left 4 Dead 2 the opposite way, with adding in the original campaigns into 2.
two worlds 2. the first one was a horrible game. i said this like million times before and i'll say it again, the graphics were horrible, the voice acting was horrible, the game play was just press trigger buttons to kill. the graphics were horrible. they looked like last generation graphics. the game lagged like hell. the voice acting was horrible. the character would randomly just laugh for no reason. i don't know how to say this but the audio sounded weird. it sounded like background noise like if you put your speakers all the way up but didn't have sound coming out.
bioshock 2. i never played it but it's like you play as a big daddy killing stuff. the newer bioshock looks good. it seems like it's in the same universe just not really a sequel. instead of it being in water, it's being played in the sky.
" @Redbullet685: Indeed, though I still don't think it should have Bioshock in it's name. It's a different game! "They appear to be thematically very similar. I think it's an acceptable title.
lost planet
the darkness (even if i loved the darkness and i am really looking forward to the darkness 2 i think the darkness was a complete game and didnt need any thing more well maby some better gameplay but thats all)
bioshock
final fantasy is a obvious one and im sure many people have already stated it here. i would say Red Dead Redemption.
why the fuck would anybody want to play as Jack?
" final fantasy is a obvious one and im sure many people have already stated it here. i would say Red Dead Redemption.I don't think you have to make a new Red Dead game that has to be related to the Redemption story line. This game barely, if at all, mentions Revolver.

We didn't need Chrono Cross.
We didn't need Bioshock 2.
We didn't need any of the Silent Hill games after the third one. The Room was a neat side story, but that didn't actually need to be a SH game.
I don't to ever see a sequel to Shadow of the Colossus or Vagrant Story.
Or a direct sequel to Eternal Darkness. I would like a spiritual successor, but not something that continues that exact storyline.
Star Fox or Sonic the Hedgehog because all of there sequels with a few exceptions have been crap. Star Fox 64 and Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, 3, and Adventure. Just remake the classics and put Fox back in an Arwing and Sonic on a 2d plane.

"Well, that was the original plan, then Valve realized they could make a shitload of money by increasing the amount of stuff in the expansion and releasing it as a stand-alone product. There was an enormous dramastorm over this after L4D2 was announced, didn't you notice?

They're some games that are so unique and emotionally gripping that they shouldn't have a sequel and just stand-alone as a fantastic game. Shadow of the Colossus is the perfect example of this. I doubt they would make a sequel to it anyway, and I hope they don't.
