Me personally I have found it to be near impossible to play a mission without some form of cheat whether its a quick get away car. Or some health and ammo.
Is it possible to play a Grand Theft Auto game WITHOUT cheats?

Cheats were a lot of fun in the previous GTAs. I'm a bit over creating carnage for carnage's sake though. With IV I took the game more seriously and never ended up using them.
" I usually used cheats in the GTA games before IV. But I never used cheats in IV. "That sums it up.

IMO a "real gamer" shouldn't say the words "a game is todifficult" But I do understand the time consuming part. But would you rather have paid full price for a 2 hours story or GTA IV's 15hr long story mode?Just a question...
I used cheats once, in GTAIV, in order to have some crazy fun after I beat the game. Other than that I have never used cheats in any of the GTA games. Sorry to say this, but if beating any of the GTA games without cheats is impossible for you, then you are a bad gamer. Unless it's the first GTA. That was kinda hard and time consuming, especially the last city. Not being able to save during playing really made my play-sessions back then stupidly long.
@Zen313: It's less fustrating, I don't have to go back to the weapon store or in the middle of a mission, I stepped in the wrong spot, i'm getting shot at and I almost died and stuff and have to start all over. Look i've been using cheats since I had gta3 way before, don't tell me how to play my game, it's an established habit. It's way more fun for me and it's my money and my game. That's how I like to play gta games and will always play it like that because it's less fustrating and more fun.
How could I ever feel it's realistic? I don't because the graphics sucks (as in not realistic enough for me) I am not immersed enough to want to play it like a sim. Also i've been using cheats since 2001 when gta3 was out.
The only cheats I use though is health, I don't like redoing missions which also gives you more ammo and cash. I also use the cheat that lowers the wanted level. Honestly if you haven't used cheats, cheating is fun. When I posted on gametrailers, half the ppl there before used cheats, yet 90% of ppl here doesn't? Just type the cheat in the phone, it will save it, you don't always have to use it, however if you want need just a bit more life or redo a mission, I say use the cheat. I don't see how you can play the old gta games without the cheat, is it fun always looking for a pay and spray when your wanted level is higher?
On my first playthrough of GTA IV, I did use cheats, and I found it to be very cumbersome and time consuming to select cheats. And I kept accidentally hitting the sixaxis tutorial button, which was really annoying. And I never finished it, then came the trophy patch, so I had to start over again. And that time I played through it without cheats, and afterwards I played through Lost & Damned and Ballad Of Gay Tony without cheats. They were fun in SA when you could make cars fly and shit, but they're not as fun in IV
I found the game experience to be much much better and more fun without cheats.
I thought GTA4 was considerably earier than past ones and still have not bothered with cheats for it. I remember the frustration of losing all your weapons each tine in GTA3 did lead me to use weapon cheats rather than go buy if it was one of those missions.I got stuck on and was frequently dying.
There making it so you can't use cheats in games that are like GTA. For instance RDR says if you use the cheats, you won't get the achievments and you won't be able to save.
Cheats in Grand Theft Auto IV made the game horrible.
Being dependent on it for Grand Theft Auto IV can just be a vague reflection of your gaming skill. The other games, probably not.

I had no problem with the controls. I find the controls in Vice City, 3 and San Andreas to be a whole hell of a lot worse." @Zen313 said:

Cheats would ruin an experience like GTAIV. Sure, before IV I didn't care too much for story development in the games, so I cheated a lot. But in today's age of games I can't see me doing it again.
So does using the health/armor cheat in GTA 4 because I don't want to restart a mission from the very beginning for the 5th time disqualify me from being a gamer? If the checkpoint system wasn't stuck in 1999, I wouldn't have resorted to cheats to save my enjoyment of the game." @CL60 said:

It is, but it can get quite boring for me. I kinda wish they moved most (or at least the *good*) cheats from San An. to IV. Niko jumping from a chopper, hitting the ground, rolling a few thousand feet, then getting up and walking away would be hilarious for me. I spent half the game jumping out of low flying choppers and fast cars. I'd still be doing that if I had infinite health (oh man, that would be so much fun).
I never cheated in gta games to make it easier, just to have fun messing around. I miss ped riots, blowing up all cars and flying tanks in GTA4, its nice that they added a super punch in tbogt though. PC version with trainers is the most fun though.

I believe GTA3/VC/SA will cap your completion at 99% if you cheat, its nothing new.
Never cheated in any of the games. I don't understand buying a game you want to cheat your way through, unless I guess it was some kind of super story-heavy RPG with a terrible combat system.

Without cheats, GTAIV is just a barren, stale wasteland of New York sight-seeing, with mediocre driving and shooting thrown in. The topic creator isn't saying the game is difficult, they just recognise how utterly tedious GTA is as a game that is played seriously. At least with cheats, you can salvage some enjoyment from it." I like my video games to have dynamic gameplay. I'm sorry.
Once you hit the "Money Is No Object" part of the game, you just ring up the Party Van and buy enough ordinance to level a city block. Cheats really becomes irrelevant. GTA4 was never really that difficult either.
After I beat the game the first time, I did cheat. Mostly to have access to the best cars immediately.
