If you have a favourite leave a youtube clip and I will put it on the front page.
What is your favourite videogame intro cutscene?
Everytime someone mentions a cutscene, I always think of Parasite Eve's intro.
I just played it recently and when I saw this, I didn't know what to think. All I knew was that it was awesome, and that this game was going to be amazing.
Also, say what you want about the MGS series' cutscenes, but I enjoyed them all.
Considering its two hardware revisions old, its held up surprisingly well. Square have always made the best FMV.
Killzone's is very good also. Brian Cox's chilling, Hitler-esque address to the troops.
Edit: What are the goddamn chances? @Glassjaw beat me to it.
@Pinworm45: Might add this to the old thread I did say intro lol. Also it's not a great spoiler warning when you can read what happens in the youtube title. Please for those of use who haven't played the game yet put it in a spoiler.
Parasite Eve's intro is marred only by its weird, dated non-vocalizations of the cats who have suddenly tried the Johnny Storm thing and found it unsavoury. That said, shit was boss. And I'm still surprised how great FF8's intro is to date, considering the rest of the game is lagely Tetsuya Nomura BELTAN ZIPPERS ad infinitum, ad nauseum.
Favourite =/= Best, but I loves me some:
The song really sells it. Not since Ron Perlman rocked the Wasteland have we gotten such a good opening crawl narrated by a hardcase. If we're going retro, though:
Super Metroid's opening cutscene, and really only one save the exodus, is all about setting the ambience that you're in. We get an impression, a vague brushstroke, of Samus's character (I imagine someone making space-livejournal to be very lonely) and of the world. It places the rest of the world in a sketched hue of melancholy and danger and quietude. It says everything the rest of the game is about inside of three minutes. Feels good man.

EDIT: Yup. Still gives me chills both of them.
Bioshock and ICO are two of favourite intros to a videgame, but as far as cutscenes are concerned, probrably Phantasy Star Online (just for the memories).
Skip to 1'35" for the start of the intro proper.
Dang you! This is mine as well bar none. But FFX also offers a cool one and a favorite." Squall and Seifer giving each other reverse matching scars. Can't beat that. Before YouTube, I would put the Final Fantasy VIII disk 1 in just to watch the intro.
"
While it's not a stupendously awesome video, this is my favorite. The first time I got the cutscene I was playing a Horde alt and turned in this quest, having no idea it would lead to a cutscene. The music gave me chills.
EDIT: Woops, just realized that it said INTRO cutscene. Ah well. Can't think of one at the moment.
This one for sure!"
Just love the music and overall feel of the intro'. Made my summer when it came out :D "
And the original WoW intro, that one is still fucking ace to show of to friends (or family even).
Nothing has ever been as close to perfect to me as the intro for Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom.
13 years old and still looking great - and the scream (you'll know which when you hear it) still gives me chills:
The music is what really does it for me. One of my favorite game themes. Say what you will about it, Twin Snakes had really great cut scenes compared to the original.
Max Payne is also awesome if I recall.
I love the one from Killzone 2, the speach at the beginning is simply awesome.
Also, an old one that I find amazing: Homeworld. Actually, the best thing is the intro plus the two first levels, when SPOILER WARNING: Click here to reveal hidden content.
I always got a smile from the Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas opening. It's an opening I only watched the once, but those first few minutes of CJ in the airport always make me smile, due to the fact that game was a massive part of my life. I love all the Grand Theft Auto openings in the more recent outings as well.
Deadly Premonition's is fucking brilliant in so many ways. FF7 will always be special to me as my 7/8 year old-self was just really like "Holy shit I am in for something special" when I first saw Aeris' face and Cloud's bike. Halo 3 is up there too...and of course the first Rayman, has a perfect blend of wit, charm, and drama.
This is one of my favorites because it always gives me the chills hearing the guy speak. It makes you feel like you have great power and responsibility.
"YES! The intro for System Shock 1 is also one of those great cutscenes that have really aged well (it's been 16 years since it was released!). While the animations are a bit more sparse than modern cutscenes, it's got a great atmosphere and looks really good still. Funny how good the humans still look in that, since the humans in the System Shock 2 intro sequence look like Minecraft characters."
Another great intro I nearly forgot - Perihelion, a sci-fi-horror-RPG by Psygnosis (Now Sony SCEE Studio Liverpool or something like that - the guys behind WipEout), for the Amiga home computer.
Fantastic atmosphere and music in that intro, even though the animations are almost as primitive as the flash stuff in Dead Space Ignition by todays standards.
Note that the actual intro doesn't start until 1:25 into the video.
