Trueeeee, but it's just that we've never really had a big black and white face be the first thing we see when we pop in the game. I for one was pretty taken aback when I saw it for the first time, even though it is pretty dang short for an intro.

System Shock 2 intro. Cause it's freaking sweet, granted much of the awesomeness is cause of the sexy psychopathic AI, but its a intro i will never forget, even tho its not eye candy.
Yes, both Dark Reign and System Shock 2 (and don't forget System Shock 1, that intro still looks amazing 16 years later) have fantastic intros. Conquest Earth was another RTS with a fantastic and obviously Babylon 5 inspired intro sequence, that intro is so great I really regret that I sold my copy of the game, even though the game itself was so badly programmed it was actually unplayable. It was an RTS where your units couldn't shoot on their own, and had no pathfinding - if you encountered an enemy you had to move your units in firing range yourself, and then click for every time you wanted to fire upon the enemy Diablo style.
