Curious as to what this is and how to make it go away. ^
Why does my annual subscription come with advertisements?

What the fuck do those acronyms mean?
Something really stupid, there's a San Diego in the middle. It's a crappy joke about the CSI series.
And you win. This whole site is an ad for video games, and you're paying for it! mwahahahaha
Its a quest, and I don't know if you realized but Ryan is on it and it says "Join Ryan for a special live stream"It's advertising Ryan?
I'm with you. I've never liked their integration of ads into their quest system. One of the main reasons I don't take part in it.
It surprises me they do this especially after the way they talk shit about ads in games and achievement systems.
@Buzzkill: It's an advertisement for a Screened livestream. Ryan announced he'd be involved on last week's Happy Hour. It's a new show, but this is really just an advertisement for Whiskey Media content. You can decide if the upcoming content is just an advertisement for this show, but then you can feel free to ask the same thing about any QL or Happy Hour.
They said that paid subscribers probably wouldn't want to miss out on quests, and for several people, they're right. So, yes, when these incredibly rare sponsored quests appear, you will see them.
The quest worked for me, as it brought my attention to a show I never heard about before that happens to have an awesome cast. I'm a fan of Adult Swim's live-action content.
I'm not a fan of Adult Swim's live-action content and I also pay money to subscribe to the site, but I don't mind the thing. Like @Little_Socrates said, it's just Whiskey Media stuff. I guess, the only thing that they could have changed would be to have only the logo of the show in the "ad" and have Ryan be the main focus. Would that not bother you as much? At that point, it's just a TNT-type "ad".

One of the big reasons I subscribed to the site is so I could view it advertisement free. This is a pretty shady way of getting around that.
They came out and said in the very beginning that advertising quests would still exist and show up for all users (Because hey, we all want quests). It's not shady. It's fine.
It doesn't bother me. Especially 'cus it has Ryan in it... and I watched the trailer it leads to. The name is hilarious, the show I'm not so sure about. It's an ad thats relevant to me, though, as it's to something I'm more than likely interested in and in that I do not see a problem.
Whiskey media gots to pay the bills.
It's not pervasive at all either. Its one ad.

@csoup said:Adult Swim is Giant Bomb website content? It's and ad for the website content, what the hell is wrong with that? That would be like being pissy that they advertise new videos on their frontpage.
It's an ad for a screened feature, for the show.
Because they are still allowing you to get quests. Simple as that. Something they said long long ago. This is not some shady way to get around anything. You are still being given PROMISED content. You are just putting your own spin on it to make GB seems like a "Shady" group when you just dont wanna see ads. The simple answer is to use an ad blocker.
Yeah, use an ad blocker of some sort. I've got one, so I didn't even know it was there until it was pointed out.
Entitlement catch it. Also its a known fact some quest will feature ads. Also its an ad for the stream more then the show.
I think this is only the second ad-sponsored quest set ever on GB, and the ad will probably be gone in two days. Plus, the ad is right above the quest section for a reason. If it bothers you, then quests must bother you too; otherwise, you're a hypocrite. Apparently the chat will be open so it is a site event. They are really handling it the best they can.
GPOYI'm with you. I've never liked their integration of ads into their quest system. One of the main reasons I don't take part in it.

But I don't mind the ad on the page, its promoting something on the site.

NTSF:SD:SUV, That's the new spin-off of Children's Hospital, right? It sounds pretty funny to me, we could all use a slapstick-y parody of all those cop procedurals on TV.
Hell I thought Eagleheart was supposed to be it. Oh well, can't wait.
@DuhQbnSiLo: Well for one it seems that the "something on the site" is itself a promotion for the show.
But in terms of the quests specifically, one of the quests has you clicking a link to check out the show that will be on Adult Swim not Giant Bomb while another has you checking out the premier. Quest like this ruin the Quest system on Giant Bomb for me as achievements Jeff mentioned in that clip ruin the achievement system for him. At least the ad Jeff was talking about in that clip was related to the product (Call of Duty franchise) and not something completely unrelated.
Same was done with the Best buy one.It seems a little off, only because it directs the user to non Whiskey Media content. It would make sense if it directed the user toward the quest page or something that says "wait for the livestream!" but going to another site entirely feels like toeing the line.

Yeah, that one felt a little off to me as well, only because of Jeff's podcast rant about achievements being tied to ads. It doesn't seem like the right way to advertise to me. Keep in mind that I am observing this with no emotional attachment at all, and don't really care either way.

RedditBomb? Yes... I see the potential.

You see ads because you apparently don't know how to install a decent ad blocker for your web browser.
