When I was a kid, I didn't realize the significance of 9/11 when it happened. Reading about this tragedy has brought me closer to tears then anything I have read before. I can't even imagine shooting unarmed kids on an island like that. What would bring someone to that... If only he had talked to someone... anyone. My dad is from Sweden and holds his Swedish traditions to heart and is really blown away. Although I am posting this on an American Gaming website my heart and my wishes go out to the family's of the victims. This kind of violence is senseless and mindblowing.
Flying a jet into a building is one thing, but holding a weapon and shooting kids face to face is a whole new level of evil I can't even fathom it...

Bomb blown up in Oslo Norway today

91 killed is the new number.
I've just heard it myself, they say it will probably be more deaths though :-(. There is also information that he may be a Christian fundamentalist, but the info is not solid.
Who the hell shoots kids anyway...fucking bastard, may he burn in hell.

It's a pretty well known fact that this guy played WoW and apparantly people have dug up his character name and found his character. Conservatism@Silvermoon
if you search for him on the forums you see all the posts he has made the astonshing thing is how normal he seems, nothing that indicates that he is capable of killing 90+ kids in cold blood.

It's scary to think that this man can have his freedom back at some point. I'm watching Norwegian television and if I understood correctly the longest prison sentence they have is 21 years. He deserves no less than a life time.
There is a clause in Norwegian law that gives the authorities the option of incarcerating someone practically indefinetly after those 21 years, if the risk of repeat offense is particularly high, or if he poses an extraordinary threat to the safety of the state. I assume that clause will be concidered.
I sure hope they consider it. Varg Vikernes stabbed a man 23 times, burnt down four churches, had 150kg of explosives he was planning on using to blow up a building along with 3000 rounds of ammo. I would imagine that would be cause for future concern, but he got out of prison after only 16 years. There is something seriously wrong with that in my opinion.@dagas said:

Stabbing one man and arson is not really on the same level as killing 80+ teenagers and blowing up offices right next to the government building. I don't think this guy will get out after only 16 years.@Draugen said:

If there is any justice this guy would be put in incarceration for the rest of his life atleast, true justice however would be to cause him the same amount of pain he caused his victims and their families and friends, that would be justice.
Yesterday was the worst day in Norwegian history since the times of World War II. To think it was performed by one of our own is baffling. It's completely gruesome.
If I understand this guy correctly, he is basically a nazi. He wants a "pure", white race for all of Norway. He chose to shoot all those kids because they belonged to a party which are generally positive to integration of immigrants. The same party is also the current, ruling party. That's why I think he bombed that building also, because that's where the Prime Minister, and many other high-ranking politicians work. This is just what I personally think were his motives.
@pornstorestiffi said:Its downright scary, is what it is.they aired it pretty much all day yesterday on TV here in Denmark. Its horrible, i can't believe this has come so close to home. Terrorists are the scum of the earth. They have aired NRK1 on SVT's site all night here in Sweden. I have stayed up all night watching it. It's hard to believe this really happened.
I just heard that 85 people were killed on Utøya. Holy shit, that is alot. Last I heard was ten or something... I feel really sorry for all of those affected by this.
But, the one good thing about this is that he is probably alone in all this, considering he wasn't part of some terrorist network, and while that won't help those already affected. atleast it means that there hopefully won't be another attack.
Going to bed last night the death toll was ten and I was hoping the previously mentioned 20 tot 30 would be wrong. Waking up to hear over 80 youths were killed on the island is shocking, unbelievable... :(
When i went to bed last night, the death toll was 17. When I woke up I saw that it had risen to 91, 7 killed in the explosion and 84! killed in the massacre at Utøya. I am literary shaking right now, whether by rage or sorrow I do not know. This will go down as one of the darkest days in our history.
That is just insane...the thought of loved ones being killed out of nowhere because of some nut case... i just really don't know what to think about all this. When i went to bed last night, the death toll was 17. I mean was this one guy who did all this? That doesn't seem likely does it?
I just keep hearing about one dude. Have they found anything out about why the hell some dick would do that?
This is not surprising at all, coming from an all around muslim family(not being one my self though) it's kinda disgusting and annoying to read all of this and I feel like I have to defend myself and other Muslims when stuff like this happens.@JerichoBlyth: That is because the guy who did it doesn't really belong to any group. He seems to be nationalistic though, possibly a Neo-Nazi. He is Norwegian, got the ingredients for bombs though a company he made in 2009 which was supposed to work with vegetables and stuff. Which made it easy for him to get fertilizer or whatnot, which I guess you can make bombs out of. He also has several weapons on his name, some of which was found in his car standing near the island he attacked.
Before this was known I have seen several Norwegians rant out against Islam and foreigners. How all foreigners are criminal, how Islam is the worst thing ever. Which is kinda ironic, as the guy who did it is just like that. His first Facebook profile was shut down because of his "controversial" opinions on those things. He has also written comments on Swedish news articles saying that the media aren't critical enough against Islam.
Anyway, this is what our news say so far at least.
I mean was this one guy who did all this? That doesn't seem likely does it? I just keep hearing about one dude. Have they found anything out about why the hell some dick would do that? His name is Anders B. Breivik, and he's fucking insane. More suspects will probably be implicated in the near future because being able to do all that alone is relatively unlikely. I've heard mixed reports about his reasoning for doing what he did; some say he is a far-right extremist (nationalist or Neo-Nazi in all probability), and others say he's an Islamic convert - which, if the information in this thread is right, is very unlikely.

Some witnesses believe there was a second gunman. Described as around 180 cm tall, dark thick hair.
We are now at 94 killed in total in Norway.
84 on the island of Utøyaand 7 where the bomb blew up in Oslo!
Teenagers in the age between 13-20 where the majority of the people on the island. According to many news medias, there should have been around 100 people on the island ysterday....
R.I.P. victims of this act!
I managed to track down an image of his Facebook profile, for Facebook has closed his account already. It shows everything that Breivik chose to make public, though anything private won't show. I'm not sure how it will size up with the site but if it doesn't display clearly, drag the image to your tab bar and you should be able to see the full size thing. Hopefully, at least. And if it runs of the side of the page, I hope it's still interesting for everyone because dragging it to the tab bar again will work. I cropped it down a bit to make it smaller now, while retaining its legibility. You can tell it was resized using Paint, because it's not incredibly accurate. Still, enjoy.
Things has finally began to calm down a bit now. At least I have, and the televisionreports have as well. I'm not looking forward to the changes this brings on the norwegian society (we really are free people, and take great pride in that), but this demnads some actions no one wants.
Holy shit. Too soon to tell what just happened, but a young man was just arrested by the police right outside the building where members of the norwegian cabinet where meeting surviving victims of the massacre. He was said to be smiling. Hopefully he was just be rowdy or disruptive, or else, this is getting crazy.
He also said "I'm a member of Labour, and I've got a knife because I'm scared."
Give the cops some time to figure him out before concluding. The rumoured smiling could be the shock or whatnot.

Went to bed last night thinking "at least it could have been much worse", and then woke up to an updated death count of at least 91. Terrible.
I wish our neighbors all the best here from Denmark.
Agreed! Could easily been us Danes!
Put it in spoiler maybe? I for one don't really care to look at his face anymore, and the image is to big (in my opinion). Things has finally began to calm down a bit now. I'm not looking forward to the changes this brings on the norwegian society (we really are free people, and take great pride in that), but this demnads some actions no one wants.I would put it in a spoiler but unfortunately I don't think it's possible to spoiler an image added via HTML - I didn't want to upload it directly to Giant Bomb in case the powers that be decide that they want to try and remove all images of the person responsible. And I know the image is extremely large, but you should have seen the size before I tried cropping it down. I really am not the best when it comes to graphical manipulation, so I know it could be cropped down further. I'm glad to hear Norwegian society is slowly moving backwards normality after the chaos yesterday. I hope your country gets back to speed ASAP. :(
And the media already harp on the fact that the guy enjoyed the occasional video game, you know, because they are evil.
I went to bed last night thinking what a tradegy.
I got a call early this morning from my mom, saying one of my friend which i have gone to school with for 12 years was shot and killed at Utøya. It feels so unreal. I was supposed to go to work today but im just so empty. I just wish my family wasnt living 10 hours away from me, and that my girlfriend was home with me. So i can have someone to talk to. But many many people have it much worse then me. My thoughts go out to all families which realises know they will never see their child again.
I went trought the streets today, where i live, and while there were many many people, i heard no laughter and almost no smiles, it was almost silent, even though i walk past thousands of people. A sad day indeed. I just hope everyone support each other, and give a helping hand to those who need it.

I'm sorry, duder. That's rough.
Horrible horrible thing.

Sadly I know that exact feeling and can only suggest that you do go to work anyway, doing regular things is what gets you through things like this.
And the media already harp on the fact that the guy enjoyed the occasional video game, you know, because they are evil.Nope, acutally they don't. I have seen it mensioned in a couple of newsarticles, and heard it said once on television were they commented that he apperently "liked Modern Warfare". And I've been following more or less 24/7. The media focuses on his past, wich amongst other things shows a membership to the most famous and largest right-winged party in norwegian politics (allthough not a bunch of racist), Fremskritspartiet (FrP). He left them because he didn't think they were right winged enough.
The deathtoll is now at 91. It's now known he was shooting at Utøya in 90 minutes, and when the police came he surrendered without any hesitation.
I saw this on Facebook: ""On a per capita basis, Norway lost twice as many people today as the U.S. did on 9/11""
Don't know if this is really true, but shooting down 85 defenseless people, many around 15-20 is so sad I can't really understand it. 85 people.
In 2007 Norway had 32 murders. 32. Nation wide. Puts things in perspective.
I agree, but they have to interrogate somebody.@Twilight: He should've been shot on sight.
Well, then its just Germany again I guess. Some "experts" immediately called out World of Warcraft for being a "killer game" the shooter supposedly played, where "killer game" is the deprecatory term German media assign to video games by default (see here). When in doubt, blame entertainment.@atomic_dumpling said:
