Do you enjoy Good and Plenties? Does anyone under the age of eighty?

I have a question - What the fuck are good and plenties?

I'm 32 & love Good and Plenty, but I completely understand why I am likely in the minority.

They are bitter and awful from what I remember, much like black licorice.

Mike & Ike's took the same exact shape and turned it into an art form, however.

Yeah, I openly admit that it's old-man candy but I happen to not be an old man and LOVE Good & Plenty. It's my go-to impulse candy buy whenever I have a hankering. My family knows that if they want to get me candy, they should get me Good & Plenty.

I have also been known to partake of a Charleston Chew.

Maybe I am secretly 80 (32).

Good and Plenties are alright. Im 23 and enjoy them occasionally.

@nodima: See, I can get behind some Mike and Ike love. That's good stuff! Same with those red hot thingies that are basically the same. But who in their right mind buys Good and Plenty? That's right. No one.

Assuming they're just generic liquorice sweets, I don't actively dislike liquorice. If someone said "here, have a liquorice allsort" I'd take one. But I'd probably never buy a pack of liquorice allsorts myself. Or good and plenties, whatever the fuck they are.

I am 35 and think they are fucking gross.

These are Good & Plenty. They look like medicine and taste even worse.

@sparky_buzzsaw the other delicious tubes of which you speak are Hot Tamales, and while I haven't had them in quite a while (I haven't been much of a candy eater since I graduated high school and no longer had a candy shop on my parents' dime within a minute's walk five days a week) my mouth does slightly water at the thought.

I answered before I knew what Good and Plentirs were, but I LOVE black licorice. I'm 22. Love me some real black licorice, not that BS candy they put on the shelves.

Good and Plenties are awful. Not all licorice is bad (see: Twizzlers), but Good and Plenties aren't far off from ipecac.

Black Licorice tastes fine. I know a ridiculous amount about the Civil War, therefore I remember the Civil War. Twizzlers are terrible.

Just so you people know, chocolate bullets are fantastic - essentially the same thing, but covered with chocolate.

I haven't had one since I was a little kid on Halloween, but I remember them being fine, not something I'd ever go looking for, but not terrible either.

I know the name Good & Plenty, but for the life of me I couldn't remember what they look like until I saw the image in the post, now I remember the box for them. But yeah I don't eat them because I'm not old. I voted tralse because it seemed like the correct answer.

Those look like a bag full of drugs. Should I try them? Hmm.

@fredchuckdave: Fun fact: red licorice isn't actually licorice. Same goes for anything other than black licorice.

I have never heard of this before, but licorice is kinda icky so I'll say no thanks.

Good and Plenties are terrible. Every once in a while I will come across them somewhere (generally when visiting elderly folks) and I enjoy maybe 1-3 but if I cross my tolerance threshold they're the worst. Oh and I'm 23.

28 and I kinda like them. They're not my favorite by any means (well, by a few means, but NOT ALL OF THEM), but I can happily put some in me.

Also, Werther's are awesome, as is horehound candy. I think I'm just elderly before my time, candywise. I'd go so far as to say that I might actually become an elderly person if I keep eating these things for another fifty years or so.

Where's the "I know what they are but don't like them" answer?

I don't like black licorice. I don't like "real" black licorice either (the stronger stuff rarely seen in the US). I don't like stuff flavored with anise (like ouzo). Like fennel in low concentrations.

I also like good and fruities, but then again, who wouldn't? They're basically tube-shaped Skittles.

Good and plenty's are fine if you like black licorice. If you don't.... well they aren't all that fine. PS: I like them and am under 80, so there.

As other have pointed out it is called Good & Plenty. I only eat Good & Fruity which are the multicolored, fruit flavored candies with a similar shape to Good & Plenty. My uncle, who passed away two years ago, was a fan of HOT TAMALES which are like Mike and Ike.

They're like Candy Corn for me. I could eat them when I was really young, but now I think they taste like shit.

I like them fine, but I'll only touch them on occasion, but I also love Candy Corn/Mellocreme Pumpkins so maybe I'm a bad person.

@entreri10: Candy corn is awesome! Just don't ever eat the Starburst candy corn. So gross.

Good & Plenty is (are?) delicious, and look like drugs, which makes them fun to eat out of a sandwich bag in the company of people who don't know what they are. Also they are a great way to make friends with old people, and forum moderators (but also sometimes enemies!)

There is nothing wrong with Candy Corn or Mellowcreme Pumpkins. Never let anyone tell you different.

Perhaps the best argument against Good and Plenty is that it isn't even carried in normal stores, or really any place that has dignity or self-respect. You have to go to some place like Michael's where candy doesn't even really belong and its very existence confuses you when you see it, and you'll find the Good and Plenty alongside other sub-candy garbage like Cherry Mash, Bit-O-Honey, Circus Peanuts, and blatant knockoffs of better candies. All these "candies" are perpetually on sale because they have to be, yet fail to be a good value at any price point. Avoid at all costs.

No. My mom likes them and black licorice, but she has no sense of smell because of an accident she was in, and thus she has a diminished sense of taste.

I can't remember the last time I had Good & Plenty, but there's a reason I haven't had any since.
