Once the specified number of negative ratings is reached, a Moderator

checks out the thread and handles business.

could lead to report-spamming or unfair reporting, I'd guess. This way, only posts that recieve a large number of negs get full attention.

Yeah, the negative ratings only put the post on the top of a list, where a moderator can then look at the thread, and make decisive action if necessary.

what happens when a post that was voted negatively by many users and that when the mod sees it he deems is acceptable?
Will the negative votes be gone or wil lvoting for that comment be halted or something?


edit: how about punishing those who voted negatively on a post thats ok? just an idea of course... hehehe

Just to clarify for some people who feel this can be abused by users. It can in a way but its essentially a way for the community to let the mods know where trouble may be without 20 people all PMing us about the same post or topic or user. Rate a trouble post with the [ - ] and it flags that post or topic into a queue for the forum moderators to judge whether it requires some attention or whatever.

So yes you can flag a users topics enough time just because you dislike them but ultimately its the moderators decision as to what happens to that topic, if its perfectly fine it gets approved if it isn't then specific action will be taken.

We really want users to begin using this feature so it makes it easier and more immediate to get a Moderators attention.

I guarantee you that they waited to do this until someone found those first two cat pictures. Unless I don't get around the net enough...

Should I still negative vote threads I don't want to see on the forum, like GS vs GB threads and GS sucks threads?  I almost see this as losing a feature, instead of gaining one.  With the vote system I was able to post what I thought of a post, but now I'm going to be a bit more reserved in my negative votes, and only do so when I feel actual forum rules have been violated.

This is good for now, but in the future I'd think an actual report button, with penalties for abusing reports, would be the best way to go.

If there are types of posts you don't want to see on the forums, give them negative votes too.  If enough people do that maybe it'll send a message.
