Since there's no John Frusciante I'll go with my 2nd favourite which is Hendrix.
Who's your favorite guitarist? POLL (caps)
" i had to go with Jimi Hendrix, but where is Michael Angelo Batio arguably the most talented guitarist ever. "Depends how you define "talent". I think Jimi trumps Batio in terms of creativity, vision, expression etc. Though there is no denying it, Batio's hands are mindblowingly fast.
Also, why did you put (caps) in the title? This isn't GameFAQs, you won't be banned for having more than one capitol letter in the title
" @eclipsesis said:don't get me wrong i can lose my self in Jimi's performances, but Batio is also an expert in piano and proves him self as a musician a little bit more for me" i had to go with Jimi Hendrix, but where is Michael Angelo Batio arguably the most talented guitarist ever. I've seen that man play live and it was one of the most impressive things I've ever witnessed. Watching him play a guitar with two necks that go in opposite directions upside down above his head was more than a little incredible. It's just a shame his songs aren't very good. Technically brilliant, but musically run of the mill.i had to go with Jimi Hendrix, but where is Michael Angelo Batio arguably the most talented guitarist ever. "
Also he taught Tom Morello, so any RATM fans should probably pay him at least a modicum of respect.
I actually kinda hoped this poll was going to include some genuinely talented guitarists and not the cookie cutter list of mainstream guitar players that pass as proficient.
No John Scofield? Andy McKee? B.B. King? Buddy Guy? Hell, even John Mayer could show up more than half the guitarists on that list. That's not in any way meant to put Mayer down either, the man has bags full of talent.
"David Gilmour. "Indeed. He may not be the fastest player out there, but God damn can he play. Comfortably Numb has my favorite solo of all time.
" @Subject2Change said:I am not a fan of Pantera but Thordendal is excellent.Word. Either him or Fredrik Thordendal. "" Dimebag "
I would also have to say Justin Broadrick (Napalm Death, Godflesh, jesu).
You are missing SO MUCH! Like Eric Clapton, I can't believe he's not there. I personally don't like him, but I know that he is widely regarded as being one of the most influential guitarists, ever.
As far as musicianship goes, Jonny Greenwood.
As far as speed and solos - Jimmy Page.
Good thing you included all the guitarists in the world.
I wish people would understand the difference between a question that warrants a poll and a question that dosent. For example this question DOES NOT benefit from a poll because there are so many damn guitarists. But, a question like what is your favorite movie directed by Spielberg does warrant a poll because you can include every possible answer in the poll.

Which is a shame because it was from where rock was born. John Mayer has a great amount of talent but the way he sings is funny as hell. Look up any of his live performances. I voted for Jimi because he actually is my favorite guitarist of all time and, Dammit, he could play him some electric blues.
he can play anything.
he always pays mad tribute to Jimi Hendrix when he plays live too, ive seen him a few times. he just sounds so fucking loud and intense but clear and defined at the same time, he's got his shit DOWN! him and Joe Satriani are insane together.
Have you actually listened to actual songs by Buckethead? He has plenty of feel in a lot of his songs, sure there's the wacky stuff too -- but that's what makes him awesome." All of the above. Besides Buckethead.. I like my Guitarists with Talent instead of just making random and annoying sounds with their instruments thankyouverymuch "
Guess I'll throw in a video of Jari (Frontman of Wintersun, formerly of Ensiferum):
