" i noticed that a lot of people here are really into mos def, and ive never really understood why. ecstatic was probably my third favorite album of the year, but aside from black on both sides the rest of his catalog is fairly weak. imo his blackstar counterpart is a far better rapper "What Blakroc? That shit was amazing if thats what you're talking about.
Who's your favorite rapper?
and The Ecstatic and Black on Both Sides are both mos def albums... he's talking about Telib Kweli, who is pretty fucking great, too. Blackstar is one of the best albums of all time.
Blue Scholars, Common, Aesop Rock, Mos Def, Jay-Z, Del (specifically the Deltron 3030 album). Etc. Seems like I have a pretty similar list to most of you.
why in the name of god do people post things like "i dont like rap." if you dont like rap, why post? it makes even less sense than the morons who post "rap = crap, lulz!"
i had the same experience in a thread i made about donating to Haiti relief charities. people posting things like "i dont give to charity" or "i'm poor and cant afford it." i mean, great, so dont post in this particular thread.
" Either Jesus or Jeff.. Its hard to pick because they have had about an equal impact upon the world. "hahahahahahahahha Very good.

I'd say I listen to Mos Def the most, but DOOM is great, and so is Ghostface. Also, shad is pretty sick, if a little too self referential.
You know, I used to LOVE k-os, but his last album was a little lacking to say the least."
K'naan and K-OS.
"
And I wouldnt say really have a favourite rapping artist...it could be anywhere from el-p to Drake to Brother Ali or Slug. Or of course MF DOOM...or Nasir jones...
But not lil wayne. Not at all. NEVER!
" @RetroIce4: Blakroc isn't just mos def, it's The Black Keys and various rap artists, including mos def who appeared on two songs. and The Ecstatic and Black on Both Sides are both mos def albums... he's talking about Telib Kweli, who is pretty fucking great, too. Blackstar is one of the best albums of all time. "My bad. I thought he was talking about the Blakroc album that he is on. He is featured in some songs on it. I have heard some Blackstar. I don't know what I was thinking... XD
" @Ahmad_Metallic said:haha dont be puttin words in my mouth you buttmunch ! i didnt say i only like him cuz he's not black.. the reason is because his rap is different, less violent, more funny and witty, and the reason for THAT is clearly his race, and thats not my problem." @ReaperOfLiving said:"" Rap is Crap. "less Violent." ORLY? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJBeVT0q5Ss
"more funny and witty" Oh yeah, that "you make my slinky go badoing duh doing doing doing" shit made anything Mos Def or The Fugees ever came up with sound like retarded jibbering.
i was honestly just fucking with you, but if you're going to denounce an entire genre of music except for one dude, and this is your reasoning, well, i dont know what to tell you, other than... you're dumb.
I have a lot of favorites but if I had to pick one, it's Sean Price.
Aiyyo stop look and listen
We smoke pot cause we cook crack in the kitchen
The weed is green, the paper's brown
The coke is white, youse a bitch and so is your wife
Straight hell is what I give a brother
Smack a cracker callin Dru Ha a nigga lover
You just mad Buck and Dru won't fuck with you
You like "Fuck Duck Down~!" Nah pah, fuck you
I'm not an artist, I'm the President
Gimme the word I'll set fire to your resident
It's evident by the way that I act, way that I move
Sean Price ain't a kid that can act, nothin to prove, BONK
Choose to lose, I choose to win
One hand hit the rib the other bruise the chin
I remember when DJ's would check for a record
Now these niggaz want a check for a record
Motherfuckers better...
" Wait, less violent? DUDE!! Go back and listen to "Kim" again......that man is frikkin bananacrazy. "ok i guess i meant less hostile. doesnt keep rapping like a thug, threatening me and making me feel like he's coming for me with a gun. my bad. he is banana crazy and its intriguing and i like it . i do know 'Kim' btw.

ok i shoulda mentioned that i never dug real deep into rap before making judgements, what i know of rap is as much as the next guy knows (im a metalhead) and i found it repulsive while eminem's style is compelling, and listen duder, i happen to be one of those laid back internet duders who do not forget that we're just gamer motherfuckers on da net chilling and talking, so i dont actually have a 'reasoning' here because i wasnt taking it seriously enough (sorry if it offended your love for rap), and if you replied in a relaxed way asking me to elaborate or proving me wrong, that woulda been cool, but people like you who get serious and think that that's my 'reasoning' and that im dumb because of it.. i avoid such friction. if u by now think im a hippie and a fag, theres no point of arguing and keep on thinking that im dumb
@Milkman said:
" ....Okay, you're obviously never actually listened to Eminem. "read what i just said to Alphonzo
I don't listen to RAP really in the slightest but I have heard some Mos Def stuff and would probably go with him.
Alright, calling me "duder," claiming you're "one of those laid back internet duders" while i'm some kind of overzealous maniac, frothing at the mouth, is kind of facetious, but okay, forget that.

i dont need you to elaborate, i know lots of guys like you, people who think rap is what 50 Cent (who got his career from your beloved Eminem) represents it as, and nothing more. as you put it, "rapping like a thug." which is kind of like thinking Slipknot is the whole and entirety of what heavy metal is.
also being "just gamer motherfuckers on da net chilling and talking" doesn't excuse you, or anybody, from the burden of reasoned arguement.
- GZA (well, pretty much all of Wu-Tang, but especially GZA, Ghostface Killah, and Raekwon)
- Big L
- Outkast (both of 'em)
- Clipse (again, both of 'em)
- The Pharcyde (all of 'em, but especially Fat Lip)
- Nas
- Mos Def
- Talib Kweli (when Mos and Talib are together, it's phenomenal)
- Kanye West
- A Tribe Called Quest (both of 'em)
You see, im the kinda hardcore metalhead who isnt necessarily annoyed by those who think Slipknot are the godfather of heavy metal, i'd either ignore them if they're being noobs or correct them. It's nice that you're so faithful to your favorite music genre but i dont find it neccesary.
Rap On.
