Head start begins!
Haha! I got the name "Experience Points" before anyone else on Yak's Bend! Also, "Laser Beams" and "Tee Rex" are mine, mine, mine.
I'm an idiot. :>
I manage to get ONE name that i wanted out of my list of five top names! its a good one too, for those who know me...
I got Johnny Cage! WOOOO :D
I also got Bestostero, but I didn't want to go by my id in the game, oh well, Johnny Cage is good enough I suppose!

I can't enter the game, they say I have a problem with my router or something, anyone is getting this?
Same here.
I'm infiltrating the Human chat section (kind of weird that it's sectioned by character race) and listening to you guys talk about sending invites.

Sucking you back in or are you just curious?
Yeah, the "server disconnected" message is really sucking me back in. Super-addictive.
Err, I meant because you seemed disinterested from the beta. I didn't know if you had played more and found it more to your liking.

Yeah, I'm not really into games that can only be played on specific days, especially when those days fall on the days when I'm not in the office. Makes covering stuff a little hard. As for the final game, I'm kind of immediately against the way they've turned it into something more like an MMO. Really liked the first game, I think I'd rather see something more like that.

Not being able to play the game for your job while you're at your job kinda sucks. I got to Guild Wars entirely too late, but I've got that MMO itch where you kinda want to be involved in the early goings. But I know so little about 2. Have you seen anything of Firefall?

You can still have most of what was awesome about GW1. sPvP and WvW let you play at max level right out of the gate, in sPvP even with all the traits and skills unlocked.
GW1's PvE was extremely sub-par in comparison to proper MMORPGs, outside of the scripted coop missions - and that's what really changed. That, and there are no NPC-companions, but SW:TOR should have you covered on that front, and nobody seems to give a damn about them.
Managed to get In a make a few characters. Pretty bummed that one of the names I wanted was already taken and another was reserved despite being usable in the beta (didn't know they were doing it like that *shrug*).
I can't do anything else though. Tried to complete the opening quest a few times and I keep getting disconnected.
I managed to get in when the game first went up, made all my characters and got the names I wanted, so I'm pretty happy. I can get a steady 30-40fps on max settings now too, which is well beyond anything I could get during the beta's.
Gem store is completely borked at the moment though.

You're sort of missing the point. For me the cool thing about GW1 was that it wasn't a proper MMORPG.
Lets give it a try, try to be upbeat about it Jeff, GW2 loves you, return the love.
Also, you coming to Yaks Bend with us?
1/3 for names, but I got my backup for my main's name and made up a better name for my thief.

Was the appeal of the original that you could treat it like a single player adventure game that just so happened to have online features?
I pre-purchased Guild Wars 2 from Greenman Gaming assuming I'd be able to access the 3 day head start, because it's listed as available for prepurchase on their list of authorized retailers. It's looking like GMG pre-purchases probably wont be able to access the head start now. It super sucks!

Regarding sPvP, GW2 isn't a proper MMORPG either.
As far as I'm concerend, pretty much everything that wasn't like every other MMO in GW 1 has made its way into GW2 - namely the ability to play highlevel sPvP, including tourneys, right out of the gate - as if I bought a competitive online FPS game or MOBA or whatever.
I don't see how the change from individually instanced and only open to friends PvE zones in GW1 to proper MMORPG-style persistent zones in GW2 is anything but an improvement. Other than the idea of it being a proper MMORPG now, and there's people lurking about - if you don't want to change the way you play, you can still go out on your own and play it that way.
It's kinda over my head, what whole 'it wasn't a proper MMORPG and that was kind of a good thing' point of view, especially since so much is completely unlike any other MMORPGs in GW2, probably even more so than in GW1.

Not true at all, I did the same thing and I just logged in.

if you purchased the game after the 8th from any 3rd party seller, you don't get into the headstart.
@Jeff: While I'm sad that you're not terribly excited about thing from the start(I am, but I've kinda conditioned myself to be because of my love for the first game), I'm happy that someone else is viewing GW as a game that was better off for blatantly not being an MMO at all. As for GW2, when the first piece of info about a new game is "there's jumping and swimming now, you guys", you know which direction it's going in. As a result, most of my WoW playing friends are now interested in playing this.
Ah well, I guess Arenanet also needs to keep their eyes on some pie charts.
I loved the original Guild Wars too, but I think they've managed to expand on the gameplay, while staying true to many of the same design philosophies. Yeah, there's a persistent world now, but unlike in other MMO's, other players don't hamper your progress and there's no need to group up with others to complete any of the quests.
You can go around by yourself, just like in the first game, without ever speaking a word to another player.. you'll just see them a bit more often now. At least you don't need to rely on the incredibly poor henchmen. Every class is self-sufficient, allowing you to pretty much play by yourself, even if there's others around completing the same event.
