    More Halo, same silly story

Having played most Halo games (I skipped 4, mainly because of mixed reviews, and because I had plenty of other things to play a the time), I knew what I was getting into when picking up Halo 5. A campaign, solid multiplayer, with some extra twists to justifying the new game price. It pretty much delivered on these terms, with my favourite twists being the Warzone mode, which combines an objective based multiplayer with AI enemies and a levelling system. I found the campaign entertaining, with its classic 'combat puzzle' format and some new weapons and enemies (completed at Heroic level, rather than legendary, as I have a life)

One of my ongoing issues with the Halo series, has always been the story. There seems to be some kind of irrational delusion that the story telling in Halo is great. The concepts may be interesting (I do like me some Scifi), but I have always found the delivery confused and clunky. Halo 5 does OK in its delivery, but once again it makes me feel only compelled to rate it 'meh'. With so many games to do it justice, and now a different studio, you would think that they could carve out some compelling narrative. I should probably put aside hopes that it will ever reach a Mass Effect level.

A special mention for the lead character model animation, which I thought was pretty good - Nathan Fillion as Buck was particularly notable.

Enjoyed, will play the next, but shut up about the story.

The worries weren’t just over a beloved franchise being placed into new hands, they were also to do with who 343 are specifically. This is a company t...
