This is a question a friend of mine asked. If you ask me that, I say that they're both equally bad. Both are obnoxious sheep, that don't have almost anything legit to say about the series. However, currently right now, the Halo haters are more vocal than the Halo fanatics. Yet, they don't get as nearly as a bad reputation as the overzealous fans. They act just as immaturely as the fanatics with comments like: "Lolgaylo!", "gaylo is teh worst game evar!!!", or "ony faggots playz teh gayloz!!". Trust me, when Halo Reach is released, the internet will be swarmed with them and it will become a battle ground between the fanatics and the haters.
So yeah, they're just as bad as the fanboys, but they're more vocal on the internet. One thing is for sure though, Valve fanboys are worst than both. :P
(Before anyone says anything, let me say that I like Valve and their games.... A LOT)
EDIT:
I take almost everything I've said back, after watch this video:
Halo
The franchise that defined the Xbox, Halo contains some of the most popular games ever released. The Halo FPS titles are revered for their excellent gamepad control and high-quality online multiplayer. The franchise now contains novels, soda tie-ins, an RTS spin-off, toys, and more.
Halo haters are worse than Halo fanboys?
I agree with the Valve claims. But, it's almost natural that whenever a major game in a series comes out, all the haters team up and unleash hell onto the fanboys. Personally, I think fanboys are more annoying than haters though.
Both types are bad.
We need some more real gamers who care about how much fun the game is and what it could mean for the industry as a whole.
I kinda like what Reach is gonna offer, it's so much more options and modes then most shooters offer nowadays, and that without DLC!
It's kind of a more complex issue than some would make it. I just don't see Halo fanboys causing trouble anywhere like I see Halo haters, in fact I never see anyone say "Halo rocks, everything else sucks" or "You're dumb if you don't think Halo is the best game ever". I do see a lot of people say "Halo is only good if it was your first FPS", or "You're dumb if you like Halo"
TLDR :

" @Skytylz said:" I'd say that the haters of most things tend to be worse than the fanboys. "Indeed. "
Would you say that "fan" is different to "fanboy"? I'm a halo fan in that I'm interested in the games and the fiction behind them, but I don't care enough about it to defend it against halo haters, does that make me a fanboy? I basically don't care about whether or not other people like or dislike it, everybody has opinions, that's what makes us individuals.
What is up with all of these Halo fanboy/hater threads lately? Halo is a quality franchise. Anybody who bashes it is an idiot... but people who only limit themselves to it and miss out on other great games are also, indeed, idiots.
@FixerofDeath: Not all the time, smart people bash Halo with constructive and valid points.
Haters of anything tend to blow small issues (sometimes even non-existent issues) out of proportion, while fanboys blindly ignore flaws and make ridiculous claims. I'd say fanboys of anything are worse.
@natetodamax: Haters can also make fallacies in their "arguments" too. They blindly follow hate trends, which is just as bad as blindly following....well.... any trend.
Well, haters are annoying.
Fanboys are fine, they're just enjoying their thing and stuff, not looking down on anyone for their opinion.

If fanboys / haters are rational it doesnt really bother me but it almost seems that being ignorant is a prerequisite.
There has been a lot of it around Starcraft discussions recently.
ODST was fine, great game with lots to do.
I'll not mention the redone map packs for CoD etc.
Also, Firefight >> all.

I just thought it wasn't worth $60. I'm really looking foward to Reach though, I hope it's not a letdown at least.
Honestly, what games are worth 60 nowadays?
I can tell ya not many.
Just the fact that I had way more fun hopping around the Halo universe shooting stuff instead of another modern wargame made it worth 60 to me.
Also, hey, 60 bucks to get Adam Baldwin, Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk and Tricia Helfer in one game sounds golden to me!
"is it just me, or are halo fanboys very uncommon now? "
They are a dying breed, especially after the great battle of ultimate fanboyism between the COD and Halo fanboys. COD fanboys rose with a new gleeming trophy of stupidty.
" is it just me, or are halo fanboys very uncommon now? "This. Also yeah haters are just as if not, more obnoxious than fanboys. It does get tiring sometimes.
Also this gives me the excuse to use this picture again.
" is it just me, or are halo fanboys very uncommon now? "Yeah, I think, in terms of fanboy obnoxiousness, the Halo fandom has already peaked. Though, that might have something to do with a large portion of the multiplayer contingent gravitating to Call of Duty 4 and the fact that the general Halo marketing push just isn't as omnipresent as it was when Halo 3 was released. Seriously, back then, it was like I couldn't go anywhere without seeing Master Chief's cold, faceless helmet staring back at me.
Halo is the franchise that I can always rely on for awesome FPS action. It's overrated as fuck but I don't give a shit.
Besides, there aren't THAT many Halo fanboys anymore. They've all moved onto the cesspool known as Bungie.net. Apart from a few comments here and there, there are much more Halo haters plaguing the internet than Halo fanboys.
A friend of mine said it best; "the only people that's dumber than Halo fans are the massive anti-Halo fans... and Naruto fans... and My Chemical Romance fans."
