What would you score each Halo titled with Giantbomb's one to 5 stars rating system?

Here's what I would score them:

    • Halo Combat Evolved: 5 out of 5 Stars
    • Halo 2: 5 out of 5 Stars
    • Halo 3: 4.5 out of 5 Stars
    • Halo Wars: 3 Stars
    • Halo 3 ODST: 3.5 Stars (Better single-player than Halo 3 though)

The battle rifle in Halo 3 is no where near as good or accurate as Halo 2's, the damn third bullet has a mind of it's own. I thought the level design was a lot more coherent and complex than previous games, the reason there's a lack of variety is because you're playing in New Mombasa.

I'll going to be the honest one here and say that while I don't enjoy the Halo series all that much--too slow paced for myself, mutliplayer speaking--they're great games. Two was definitely the weak point but the multiplayer was amazing; why else would people spend a month leaving that game on idle after the Xbox Live service was gone? ODST though...meh.

Halo isn't a slow paced shooter, nor fast paced, it's a medium paced first-person shooter. Which explains why it has a love or hate reaction with most gamers. Halo Reach certainly looks more fast paced than any of the previous Halo titles.

I love that this video begins with an acronym guide for non-gamers, because of all of the non-gamers who will see something called "Halo retrospective" and say, "I don't care anything about videogames, but FUCK YES do I want to watch this!

Dual wielding ruined the game for me
    Removal of the pistol
    God awful storyline
More importance given to Multiplayer over single player
    Battle rifle was awful
    Controls didn't feel as tight
AI wasn't as, entertaining for me.
Final battle against the brute with the hammer
    cliffhanger ending
It really really put me off the series as a whole.

I can see why you don't like what they've done with Halo 2 & 3, but Halo Reach is going back to Halo: Combat Evolved roots. So you may be excited for it, it could have the best single-player and story since the first one. I personally thought the duel-wielding and the battle rifle were great, the A.I. was an improvement over the original as well and the pistol isn't overpowered like the original. I also thought the storyline was better, it gave a in depth look at the Covenant side of the story, which helped them from being mindless killing machines. I do agree with you on two things though: The Brutes are lame and Halo: Combat Evolved was a better game all around.

And another thing: Halo 3's storyline was godawful.

I actually really liked ODST, but I did get it for a quarter of its original price, I think £30 would have been something that I would have been more comfortable to pay for on day one.

Halo: Combat Evolved - 5 stars
Halo 2 - 4 stars (Only because I thought the campaign was weak. Still, it has my all-time favorite multiplayer)
    Halo 3 - 4 stars
Halo: ODST - 3 stars (The campaign was alright, but all in all, it wasn't a great game)

And if I was to review the beta of Halo: Reach...
Halo: Reach - 3 stars (Downgrade in most ways. I thought the gameplay was butchered quite a bit and I hope for big changes)

I didn't like the sp in H2 near as much as CE, but the mp was sooo ground breaking it has to get at least a 4.5.
Reach should be good, but the masterpiece that was CE, at least sp wise, will never be reached again I fear.  Lol at teh unintentional puny.

I can't ever get into halo and i have played it for while, I got up to like 35 or something before I couldn't take it anymore.  I've never been into the fiction so the story does nothing for me.  The online is where it falls apart for me because I really can't stand the community and those who play it.  It's ok when your with friends and the music is good, but I feel that it is extremely over hyped and for some reason to the fan boys its like a sin to bash on it.

And for some reason, it's a sin to the haters, to praise the games. I'm sick of all of this "halo fanboy!" stereo-type a lot people make on the internet. It's as if that the Halo fanboys exist and fanboys for other game series don't, the games and the fans been always been an easy target due to it's popularity. There are plenty of non-zealous Halo fans who don't praise it, like it's the best thing to happen since Jesus walked on water, they play it to enjoy it. Don't get me wrong, there are also plenty of Halo fanatics (I'd much rather use this term, because I personally believe the word "fanboy" is overused)  who burst a blood vessel when they see a negative opinion towards Halo. However, that can be said for any video game series with a rabid fanbase.

Games such as; Metal Gear Sold, any game from Valve, Call of Duty, God of War, Mass Effect, and Final Fantasy have a rabid following, but there are rarely complaints towards them as much as Halo. I don't like Metal Gear Solid at all, and I know you are a fan of the series (Seeing that Hideo Kojima is one of your favorite developers) and I have nothing against that. However, I can't make any valid criticism towards MGS without a MGS fanatic insulting me. I'm not talking about people who counter-point my arguments, I'm  talking of MGS fanatics who call me a "an idiot" or say "MGS story iz 2 deep 4 u!!! hur hur hur!!!. People who make no valid argument of their own. I'm not saying you're a Metal Gear Solid fanatic (Maybe you are, I don't know for sure) and I'm cool with the fact taht you don't like Halo, but to say that: "it's a sin to the fanboys to bash on it" pretty much seem to imply that you think it directs to only the Halo fanatics. No, the same can be said about any fanatics and all fanatics behave the same way.

Another thing, I don't dislike Hideo Kojima, I liked Snatcher a lot. That was really, damn cool game.

I don't really feel like rating them at the moment, but the multiplayer was always the draw for me. I can't stand most games like MW2 because, if they see you before you see them: instant death, and vice versa. In the Halo games, you have a chance to fight back against your attacker most of the time.

The difference between Halo and Modern Warfare 2, is that Halo is a very well balanced game and Modern Warfare 2's is horribly unbalanced. I'm not a Call of Duty hater by any means, all the Call of Duty games (Apart from 3 and the ones for the PS2) before Modern Warfare 2, are great games.

I'd give Halo 3 a 3.5 simply because the theater and forge features are so cool. The multiplayer was rather bland compared to CoD4, which is the other game I was really into when I was really into Halo 3.

I completely disagree, both games have great multi-player and are different in various aspects. Call of Duty is a fast-paced and realistic military shooter, that is about gathering intel of the location of your enemy and precision aiming. Halo 3 is a arcadey , medium paced and sci-fi shooter that is about how to interact with the weapons attributes and the energy shields, there are also vehicles in the game that are easy to use and well balance. I have to say that Halo 3 is much more balanced than Call of Duty 4 (Not to say that it doesn't have balance problems of it's own, but they're all very minor). Call of Duty 4's kill streaks can unfairly tip the balance of the battle, a superior team can easily lose to a Helicopter and Airstrikes that can randomly take down many players, not to mention that Martyrdom is a very over-powered and over-used perk. The grenades are extremely over-powered, the blast radius is so ridiculous, that it could kill players in a fluke. Both games have well balanced multi-player, but Halo 3 takes a bit more skill to play.

@Spartan14003: In my experience, the team that got either shotguns, energy swords, or needlers usually won.

@Spartan14003: Also, you saying that Call of Duty is realistic shows you obviously spent little time playing it.

Never played a Halo game. I don't dislike it, it's just never appealed to me.

I really like all of them but if I had to rate them it would be like this:

CE: 4 or 4.5 - The fact that half way through the game you basically turn around and replay all the levels over again was cheap and lazy no matter what way you cut it.
Halo 2: 5 - I played the campaign to death in this game well over 20 times and spent quite awhile playing splitscreen with my brothers (no LIVE at the time) and it was great.
Halo 3: 5 - I spent hours and hours playing online with friends in matchmaking and this game had a great campaign.
Halo ODST: 3 or 4 - An overall OK story with nice changes to normal Halo along with Firefight which was awesome, but some serious issues with faces, animation and plot holes.

That would be how I would rate them but like I said I think they are all good games and I enjoyed everyone of them and I have yet to buy Halo Wars.

Halo 2 holds up well, but CE doesn't at all. I don't know what I'd rate them, but I'd say from 2 on they have the best console multiplayer of any shooting game.

You seem to have misinterpreted it, I never mean that the gameplay realistic. I'm referring to the setting.

" I don't really feel like rating them at the moment, but the multiplayer was always the draw for me. I can't stand most games like MW2 because, if they see you before you see them: instant death, and vice versa. In the Halo games, you have a chance to fight back against your attacker most of the time. "
Yeah, this is very true, but whenever I have tried to say that on this forum, everyone freaks out.

How is this related to the subject in anyway? Is this another cheap stab at the Halo fanatics again?

@Spartan14003: Hey I agree with you on the fact that all those games and more have a rabid fanatic fanbase.  If you were to criticize their game to them they would said "omg you noob ur such an idieeeeooot !!!111!11!" and stuff like that, but your post was about halo and thats why I singled it out.  And I'm not a fanatic of MGS but I do enjoy it and I know its faults, like its crazy out there story.  I don't care if someone's a fanatic for a certain game because its their own opinion and that's what they choose to like.  But when they start saying theirs is the best and start bashing on another perfectly good game then thats when they need to be knocked off their cloud and thats when the arguments start.  You enjoy halo and your having fun, thats what matters, but for me and my own opinion i can't get into so I don't play it.
