Gizmo and Death_Burnout: Thanks for reiterating my point. Good job!
makari: Again, nobody has taken offense. Please read my last post.

I struggle to understand your germanification of words.
Also, where are all the drooling teens obsessing over how "hot and sexy" Jade Raymond is? I'm glad that fad is passed. I mean, she is beautiful, but Iknow how annoying it gets when people fawn over you and drool over you. lulz.
Yay making fun of languages though! Just remember, German's make fun of English all the time! So its not like we're doing it and they aren't =p Its just joking around, if it offends you thats because you let it offend you, not because it was actually offensive. Laughs, not tears my friends =)
"Das Affenhause!"
Dude , do not insult in other languages , we all know that means monkey house ! stop it
RHCPfan24: It's not just you. For someone used to a diphtong-laden speech, languages with open vowel spaces like German (or Japanese) often sound exaggerated. The fact that german is riddled with fricatives and plosives and a general tendency to unvoiced sounds doesn't really help, either.
But English is a relatively young, crazy hybrid of old germanic, celtic languages and (to a very large extent) french. I wouldn't be too proud of it. ; D
People still don't seem to have understand what I didn't like about the first post. So, again:
- There was a ridiculously bad gaming award show in a country with an interesting history in regard to video games.
- Because of that history, it may be interesting to see that there are important decisions made on different ends in order to get the medium "Games" out of a stereotypical, ridiculed corner and into the minds of the common people; there are laws passed, games conventions held, and game award shows hosted on the normally very anti-games television (however bad that show might have been!)
- Instead of even remotely touching on those subjects, giantbomb decided to resort to worn down, stereotypical jokes and alienation, just because that's very easy with this particular country.
- I was disappointed to see that. It's mindless fun, nobody is offended (me included), and I understand that nobody really cares, but I don't think my disappointment is unjustified.
- The end
That's all there is to it. If I cared about people making fun of countries they know little to nothing about, the internet would be unusable. What I care about is the journalistic coverage of what I enjoy very much: video games. And when someone decides that pointing at a foreign language and laughing is more noteworthy and relevant than what going on in the gaming world (and the "maturing" of the medium as its happening pretty fast these days), I don't know, that's just kind of a facepalm to me.
Hope that cleared things up. Now please go watch clips of the first MTV Game Awards and talk about them, because that's really something to laugh at.
Gerstmann is German for Gerst Man. Proof that he's at least part German.
I studied German for years and got okay at speaking it, but my experience there was pretty much like that awards show. Pretty much everyone spoke English.
Ich liebe die schoene Jade. Wollen Sie viele Kinder machen?
"ah germans.....wonder if jeff is seriously part german"
Gerstmann. Isn't that proof enough?
I actually like hearing English speaking people trying to speak German. Somehow they always sound like nazi soldiers as they are depicted in movies. As for the article beeing not very informative as Meowayne stated: I personally don't care about that because I visit this website for entertainment only (e.g. the funny videos) and I sympathise with the people behind it who seem to enjoy their freedom of speech since they left the boredom that now is Gamespot. You guys are doing a great job and I hope you will go on forever with it.
I passed my german high school class by learning only one sentence!
Meowayne: Please educate us Americans on why this awards show is some major step for video games in germany. Because they only thing I know of this is that a lot of, or maybe just some, games get censored and that's it. I don't watch german television so I don't know how anti-gaming it is and I'm pretty sure Jeff doesn't either but then I don't know him personally. You also mentioned how games were blamed for a school shooting. Was that a shooting in germany? I don't see why that should prevent anyone from making fun of a Game Awards show. Games were blamed for shootings in the US to but that doesn't prevent anyone from making fun of the Spike games award show or even put any significance on it. And if this is some large step for video games in germany it's a large step back. Having catagories like "Bad Motherfucker" doesn't help anything. Unless German movie award shows have catagories like that too.
