A game where you eventually receive a map of an area. Like in Metroid Prime you have map download stations to get a map outline of the area. This is the same concept in the exploring Castlevania games.
These are often a departure from the conventional gameplay of a game. There have also been compilations; games including only minigames. The Mario Party series has a lot of minigames, too!
Multiple endings is a term used to describe different outcomes or conclusions to a game based on the previous actions of the player.
Games with characters that, for either physical or psychological reasons, are unable to speak. Not to be confused with a silent protagonist.
A character whose intentions seem to be to help the player character, but their motives are unclear.
A mode that allows a game to be replayed after a first completion, carrying over items, experience, weapons, and other elements from the first playthrough.

Who needs 2D when we've got 3D? 3D, or 3 dimensions, is what we're used to seeing in almost every game these days, letting us do all sorts of awesome stuff like run in circles!
Puzzles may need to be solved before the player can progress to the next section of the game. Often it may not be clear to players exactly what the puzzle is, or whether the an in-game items needs to be attained before it is even possible to solve it.
Puzzle games that also feature some kind of narrative.
Games that feature quiz questions, often in the form of multiple choice responses.
A Random Number Generator (hence RNG) is a system designed to randomize a sequence of numbers. Most games technically use a table of 'random' numbers, simulating random chance.
Games where players are given material to read; this includes books, newspapers, and emails.
A red herring is a plot device used to mislead or distract someone from what's really going on in the story. It could be a false clue or over-emphasis of another character. Red herrings can add a surprise or make a challenge tougher.
A sound effect that plays once the player has gained a level, solved a puzzle or reached a milestone within the game.
Games that allow items to be rotated; this can be used to reveal information about certain objects for the purpose of puzzle solving.
The process of tracing over live-action motion video to create animation.
This is an event that occurs when a player is presented with a set of dialogue options with one of the results being an automatic death or game over.
Designed as non-fictional, relating to real or known history, and to claim or reveal that these events actually happened, but were deliberately forgotten long ago.
A person leading a double life. Many comic book characters have one and sometimes the plot of their stories is keeping their secret identities a secret.
A television news program, often used to give a wider perspective on the events of the game.
Games that conclude with a screen displaying "The End" or a variation thereof, such as "Fin."
It's the designer's go-to guy. If they want to steer a player in a given direction they'll lock an in game door and force the player to find a way to either unlock it or find an alternate route.
A game perspective that views the action from above, commonly at a fixed position and/or rotation.
Games that are controlled partially or entirely with a touch screen.
