I have not looked up any info on this game at all. And to my surprise, I install the demo, and what do I see?
Just Cause 2 does not support Windows XP...
WTF?

" You can't expect games to support ancientware "DOS is ancientware, XP is still used by quite a bit of people.
Microsoft is about to drop any support for WinXP, it'll shortly join Win98 and WinME on the software junkyard. It's not the first game that doesn't run on XP either - Halo 2 pulled this stunt years ago.
Get over it. They made the decision to drop DX9 support in order to focus more on improving the DX10 support. It was bound to happen eventually, especially with the release of DX11. You can't expect games to start supporting all 3 rendering modes. That's just silly. If you still used XP when Vista was the newest OS I could understand, as Vista was a piece of crap. But Windows 7 puts XP to shame, so if you wanna keep on PC gaming, I'd say it's time for an upgrade.
Although, on a side note I think they should have made it more obvious to people that it has no DX9 support so that people wouldn't download it just to find they couldn't play it as the OP did.
I've had Windows 7 for some time now. And at first I was kinda sceptical, but now I'm totally loving it! And just so we're clear, w7 is not to be compared to Vista, even thou the visual style might seem very similar. Vista suck while w7 is awesome! Upgrade!
I'm running an 8800 gt in windows xp 32 bit. I have a copy of windows 7 64 bit lying around, if i upgrade to this will i be able to play just cause 2 or do i need to upgrade the video card as well? I was really looking forward this game...
" XP is 9 years old. You should be happy game developers didn't drop the support earlier. "This guy has it right. Vista SHOULD have replaced most of the XP systems but didn't due to circumstances we all know. Windows 7 is now the major reason to upgrade as a PC user and as a gamer.
End of the day XP is approaching 'ancientware' status, it may still be used by a ton of people but it's also without support from microsoft, doesn't support the latest features, 64bit support is a joke and like the OP has been told, only supports up to DX9.
Get windows 7 guys, it's pretty rad.

I think that by now, anyone who would play a game like Just Cause 2 on the PC rather than on a 360 or PS3 (i.e. probably people who still only play games on their PC) probably has Vista or Windows 7. Not to mention that the PC market for a game like this is probably pretty small anyway so I doubt Square-Enix is going to lose much sleep over it.You realize still about 45% of PC users use XP? "
" Yes yes, let's not take advantage of new developments on the computer and gaming front and stick with technology that's about 8 years old (DX9). "Yes yes, lets not add something in that's in the console versions so that the many people that still own Windows XP can't play it.

Perhaps a crazy agreement with Microsoft boost sales of Windows Vista or 7? /conspiracytheory
" @Undesired said:You realise that XP was released in 2001 and much less than 45% of all GAMERS use it. Time to update your OS instead complaining about DirectX10." You can't expect games to support ancientware "You realize still about 45% of PC users use XP? "

You cant play Just Cause 2 on your 10 year old Playstation 2, so I dont see whats wrong with not being able to play on your almost 10 year old operating system. DX10/11 lets dev's gets there games working corss platform alot easier and more effectively. If your to stubborn to change OS's then thats your problem and I suggest you buy a 360... which would cost more than a copy of win 7.
That sucks. You should use this opportunity to finally upgrade to 7, it's a good step in the right direction.
" You cant play Just Cause 2 on your 10 year old Playstation 2, so I dont see whats wrong with not being able to play on your almost 10 year old operating system. "Yes, because it's so difficult to support DX9 in your games...
This situation is EXACTLY like a old console running games it simply cannot handle..sigh.
Are you seriously expecting them to still be supporting XP in 2-3 years? For businesses sure XP is fine but do you really, honestly believe XP was going to last forever?
Give me a break,I was surprised 64bit XP even came out,it's like getting pissed off that I can't use windows 95 for games anymore

They're dicks in other words.
I'm not even gonna bother this time. Too many blind people that have been fooled by the good looks of Win 7. No, if you want a real OS that gives power to the user and doesn't take more resources for bullcrap like AERO (Who the fuck wants AERO?) and has PROPER game compatability. You'll stay with XP for atleast until SP3 of Win 7

Nope, you can believe all you want but I don't think their "coning" you into buying win7,I mean you can't play anything on an 8088 anymore. Eventually they are going to push technology past a point to where people are going to have to move up.
Did people have this big a problem upgrading OS(es) before?
I never said they're "conning" us (that would be illegal) but they definitely aren't doing it for the technology. Fuck fucks sake the game is out on the PS3 and 360, NEITHER of which use anywhere close to the full DX10 API (if at all in most games). If technology was the issue then these same game developers should be abandoning the "obsolete" consoles as well. This is clearly an attempt at creating artificial demand for something not everyone wants (or needs). They did it with Halo 2 and they're doing it here again. If this was Crysis 2 I'd get it. This isn't Crysis 2 though and it definitely does not look even close to Crysis 1 on DX9.
