Kanako

Kanako is the same age as Takafumi and attended the same school as he does during middle school. She is tomboyish and she easily mixes with guys. Kanako is well-trained in karate and aikido. She sees Tomoyo as a rival and explains that Tomoyo is better at street fights while Kanako is better in official matches.

Kanako loves ice cream. She is playful, lazy, and enjoys making jokes, some of which tends to be harmful. Tomoyo does not understand her jokes and Kanako would be frustrated by Tomoyo's lack of reaction.

Middle School

3 years ago, Kanako started mixing with the members of her father's track team. There, she met and fell in love with Takafumi. Takafumi wanted to gain Kanako's father's approval of his relationship with Kanako and he promised to win the national championship.

In Spring, Takafumi threw himself into oncoming traffic and lost his legs. Kanako's father became furious and he does not approve of their relationship. He also broke up with his wife and passed away 3 months later. Kanako's mother later decided to re-marry. Kanako disagreed with her decision and decided to run away.

Tomoyo After: It's a Wonderful Life

Kanako was first seen on July 12 when Tomoya was on the way home from work. She explained that she was looking for Takafumi. Tomoya explained that he is the boyfriend of Takafumi's sister, Tomoyo. Kanako requested Tomoya to buy her ice cream then followed him home. Tomoyo was shocked to see Kanako again. Kanako assumed that Tomo was Tomoyo's daughter. That night, Takafumi arrived. He revealed that he had broken up with Kanako and he ordered her to leave. Kanako explained that her parents broke up 3 years ago. She had left to rebel against her mother and insisted on staying with them.

Kanako wanted to get a job because she dislikes studying. She planned to make money by entering contest in magazines by naming things, creating slogans, and writing drama scripts. That night, Kanako followed Tomoya when he went out and witnessed him fighting delinquents. Tomoya explained that the delinquents wanted to fight Tomoyo but he decided to fight in her place to grant her a peaceful life. He also requested Kanako to keep his fight secret from Tomoyo.

The next night, Kanako noted that Tomoya's opponent is a skilled boxer. Kanako took over for a while and beaten a few delinquents herself. Tomoya requested combat tips from Kanako. He then took over and managed to win. The next day, Tomoya then requested training from Kanako. That night, Kanako recognized that Tomoya displayed Muay Thai. He explained that he learned it from watching television. 2 days later, Tomoya managed to win by sheer force of will. Kanako then helped him return home.

On July 29, Kanako followed Tomoya home. She wondered if running could really help Takafumi. She confessed that she enjoyed her time with the group and that she will be gone once her mother re-marries. The next day, Takafumi attained 31st place in the marathon. Takafumi was frustrated but Kanako forgave him. She explained that he doesn't need to meet other people's expectations and to not be scared of his nightmares.

They restarted their relationship and went to meet her mother. 2 days later, Takafumi and Kanako returned to Tomoya's apartment. She reported that her step-father was exactly like Takafumi.

On August 12, Kanako begged Tomoya to follow him and Tomoyo to meet Mishima. Kanako managed to befriend the villagers due to her energetic disposition. Tomoya wondered how to make the village suitable for Tomo to live in. Kanako suggested building a school. Later, Kanako discovered a flower field in the village. Tomoya sent Kanako to watch over Tomoyo.

On August 17, Tomoya fell down and split his head. Kanako discovered him and called for help. Tomoya was eventually hospitalized. The manager explained that Kanako's bright personality gave the villagers renewed life and they took over the renovation of the school.

3 days later, Tomoyo wore a bear suit to help with the renovation. Kanako recognized her easily and teased her about it. The next day, Kanako challenged Tomoyo to a duel and lost, much to her dismay. The manager praised Kanako for being an important factor in reviving the village.

After

Takafumi and Kanako graduated and they furthered their studies to university. Takafumi then became a teacher and coach for the track team. Kanako lived with him and supported him.
