Cao Cao was a warlord and government official of China's late Han Dynasty. Later in life, he gained control of China's northern plains, which he ruled as Wei, one of three kingdoms of the fractured nation.
Deng Ai was a general who served under Wei during the Three Kingdoms era of ancient China. He appears as a playable character in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms series and a non-playable character in Dynasty Warriors before the Dynasty Warriors 7, at which point he became playable.
A woman of unequaled beauty in the waning years of China's Han dynasty, she conspired to bring down the tyrant Dong Zhuo. She is a fictional character loosely based on historical precedent from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms story.
Guan Yu was a general serving under Liu Bei of the Kingdom of Shu. He is one of the best known historical figures throughout East Asia.
A shaman queen of the ancient kingdom of Yamatai. She is one of the oldest known rulers of what would later become the Japanese people.
Leader of Shu forces, sworn brother to Zhang Fei and Guan Yu. He believes that the people of the land deserve justice and support.
Character introduced in Dynasty Warriors 7. Son of Xiahou Yuan, he flees to Shu after the Sima clan seizes power.
Styled Yuanrang, he is the cousin and loyal vassal of Cao Cao. A stalwart member of the Wei forces during their formative years, he is best remembered today through his portrayal in the Dynasty Warriors franchise.
Sworn brother to Liu Bei and Guan Yu. Rumored to have the strength of a thousand men. One of the Five Tiger Generals.
Leader of the Yellow Turban Rebellion, he and his two brothers intended to bring China into a new enlightenment with their mastery of sorcery. Character based on a historical figure from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms story.
One of the most powerful fighters in the land, he defended He Fei so vigorously that the civilians and other warriors were in awe of his strength.
Wife of Cao Pi, the first emperor of the state of Cao Wei in the Three Kingdoms period. She was posthumously honored as an empress when her son, Cao Rui, succeeded Cao Pi as the second emperor of Wei.
A non-historical character from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms novels, Zhou Cang pledged lifelong loyalty to Guan Yu after hearing of his exploits.
