Before the review I would like to give a little background on my past experience regarding the Killzone series. I was never able to play the first Killzone as I was too busy playing Kingdom Hearts on my PS2. I never thought about the series that much until I saw the trailer of Killzone 2 for the PS3. It was amazing! Right then and there I was hyped about the game and could not wait for it anymore. This is the reason why I decided to play Liberation on the PSP. Obviously being a top down shooter it could not bring me the same experience, but I liked it nonetheless. It gave me an idea of the world of Killzone; the artstyle, atmosphere, and the main antagonists. Eventually Killzone 2 released and right from the intro video I was hooked. I could not put the controller down and I just kept playing and playing until it was over. Then I stumbled onto the multiplayer. Being the poor bastard that I am my connection is not great and was not able to play MP properly. Most of the time the matches I get into are pistol only matches mainly used to level up the pistol for the game. Obviously, when Killzone 3 was announced I was immediately hyped for it and after playing it extensively I have now been able to form my thoughts about the game. To make a long story short IT IS AWESOME! Sorry for spoiling the review (read on if you are still interested :)).

Yes this is from a cutscene in the game, but believe me when I say the in-game graphics doesn't stray too far from this.
Yes this is from a cutscene in the game, but believe me when I say the in-game graphics doesn't stray too far from this.

First and foremost let's start with the least important part of a game. The graphics. Killzone 3's graphics are just as bad as Killzone 2's. In other words its not bad at all! The graphics are the least important part of the game, but in a game like Killzone 3 where the graphics are just amazing one can't help to value it a bit more than it really is. It does not add anything solid to the gameplay, however, the atmosphere it brings just adds that much more to the experience. At times I truly did feel a bit scared and intimidated to the helghan world. The fact that it has an unpredictable atmosphere and the fact that its practically in ruins. This never would have been possible if they didn't have the awesome graphics that it has.

Gameplay. The gameplay in Killzone 3 is essentially the same as Killzone 2's. They have small differences of course. One difference I noticed is the destruction included in some levels of Killzone 3. I have to say I'm impressed with the amount of destruction that was showcased. It exceeds the destruction I found in Bad Company 2 and even rivals the destruction of Red Faction. This would've been something truly special had it been included in every single level as well as the multiplayer of the game. Sadly, that isn't the case but there are tons more to be found in the gameplay of Killzone 3 and this being included even if it was only partial counts as a plus to me. Being an FPS Killzone will have guns. They don't have an extensive collection of guns like say Call of Duty and Battle Field but it has enough. Every gun not only looks different but also performs different. Which brings me to another point the gunplay. The gunplay is just as good as it was in Killzone 2. Actually, its the same thing. The guns still have that heavy feeling, it still has the same recoil(or at least something close to that), and the cover mechanics are still cover mechanics. I would've normally complained about this but the fact of the matter is there was no problem with the gunplay in the beginning so why bother to change it? The mechanics may be the same but the execution is definitely different. After much complaint they finally fixed the deadzone issue that was present in Killzone 2. The guns still felt slow, however, but that's the way I like it. The cover mechanics seem to be different as well. As stated above it looks the same, it feels the same, and it plays the same. Overall, Killzone 3 has the same gameplay as Killzone 2. The same legendary gameplay that is plus a few additions like partial destruction and more guns.

Some example of that destruction. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=baxCtDwKBmk

Multiplayer. I was a bit disappointed at the multiplayer of Killzone 3. Not because of the multiplayer itself which is just like the other parts of Killzone 3 awesome and a lot like Killzone 2. I was disappointed at how they removed the server browser they had in Killzone 3. Instead they replaced it with matchmaking. While this is alright for quick matches it definitely strips a lot of the freedom that I liked in Killzone 2.

As you can see Killzone 3 is just like Killzone 2. They are the same game in almost every game with the exception of a few features and fixes. I can't really recommend this game to anyone who only craves for the multiplayer because this is the same game. The singleplayer however isn't anything special but it certainly is interesting. The campaign also gives good challenges at certain points of the game. All in all Killzone 3 is a great game. It's nothing special but that is mainly because all of this was seen before in Killzone 2. Now I know you guys are wondering about the score. Probably thinking to yourself how could this idiot give the game a 4.5 when its just the same as Killzone 2. Well to simply put I'm reviewing this as a game, and if the game were to be judged on its own then it really does deserve a 4.5, if I were to consider everything however then I would've probably given it a 3. I wasn't however so 4.5 out of 5 .

      Killzone 3 First Impressions 0

Front cover of Killzone 3 (US) for PlayStation 3  Killzone is a series that is near and dear to any PS3 FPS fans heart.  The series made it start on the PS2, had an offshoot game on the PSP, and finally made its way to next gen with a bang with Killzone 2.  Killzone 2 introduced most players to the gritty world of Helghan with amazing graphics and a fresh new take on FPS controls.  Can Guerilla Games up their tactics and produce another great game on the PS3 or will they suffer the next gen ...
