If you liked Reckoning you'll like Dead Kel
While the Legend of Dead Kel DLC isn't a massive leap in any real significant direction from the initial form and structure of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckonings main campaign if you enjoyed what that game already offered you'll be pleased with this additional content. Don't expect to be blown away however.
In terms of story Kel's is at least somewhat interesting but as a character he isn't terribly well fleshed out. His archetype itself is pretty familiar; the tired old pirate who has been dead for some time but unnatural forces bring him back to life and he seeks vengeance on... something. I forget the details which probably speaks of the story's inability to really be all that compelling; the same issue that holds Reckoning back in general.
As for the raw content you get a nifty new building to upgrade and a tonne of new missions to do on the new continent that is added; Gallows End. Some new dungeons are included thankfully with varying structure and visual design but nothing that ultimately looks much different save for one large cave area that the undead pirates have turned in to a boat yard with winding peers and platforms that seems inspired by World of Warcraft's Deadmines. The island itself has some nice variation to it but overall you'll be doing the exact same thing you spend 90% of your time doing in Reckoning; killing things. Their isn't a huge reason to explore and even the achievements save for one don't encourage this much like they did before.
While the combat is still fantastic the lack of a level cap increase and any new loot that isn't a significant upgrade to your existing high level loot (assuming you've finished the main game and capped already) makes it difficult to find reason to progress through this dlc outside of simply doing so for story or content which as mentioned is pretty light in innovation still.
I would only recommend this DLC for people who really enjoyed playing through Reckoning already. Their are some fun new characters to talk to and the occasional fun side mission but anyone who was already pretty down on the game won't find anything here to warrant purchase sadly.
