Does anyone else feel that it's almost impossible to play Shepard as a biotic if you are concerned with the roleplaying aspect of the game? What I mean is, if Shepard was in fact a biotic, it would stand to reason that he would be the strongest biotic on the team. If that were the case, then what would be the need for squad members like Jack and Samara? And why isn't there a single event in the game that showcases Shepard's talents outside of gameplay? The scene in LotSB comes to mind, the part where Shepard is mid-air wrestling with Vasir seems like the perfect opportunity to show him using some of those skills if he's the appropriate class, yet all he seems capable of are punches and kicks while Vasir attacks with her powers. Kinda breaks the illusion.

Shepard as a Biotic *spoilers maybe*
I know what you mean. Created a thread asking this very question already.
You're probably right but it would have been weird if you weren't able to play one of the big classes the game has. If you saw biotic characters firing shit, you would be annoyed that you couldn't also take part in the action. I personally wouldn't play the class but I would find it really weird if the option wasn't there.
Even if he's good at something, he's a leader above all and needs to do many things, most of his squad often solely focusses on murder stuff while Shepard takes care of most of the rest.
I agree with the LotS cutscene but hey, it never bothered me before that so I'm not gonna let it lessen my experience now.
Mass Effect already does so much more then other games, it can't go wrong in my book.
Shepherd doesn't use biotics in cinematics fot the same reason that he always uses a pistol in them. No one bothered rendering individual cutscenes for every class/skill/weapon combination.
I don't like the biotic use in cutscenes, they always look awesome but then you use the character ingame with nothing like the same effects.
" @yogetoutdaway: Because no matter what class he is, he's still a highly decorated soldier. "This. The OP is making some HUGE assumptions without any real evidence. Like just because he has biotics makes him incapable of any other martial abilities, or just because Shepard is a biotic user he is the automatically the most powerful biotic user. Where does that logic come from? By this logic couldn't you make that case about any class? Like if you roll engineer than having Tali is pointless because Shepard is better. Or if you're a solder than having Grunt is pointless. Not really sure how you got this idea that Shepard = best at whatever he does.
" @cheapandtacky said:This is a problem with all class-based RPGs with the option of choosing teammates. Like if you play an RPG as a mage, and there are mage options for your team. You're less likely to pick them because you've already got those bases covered. It's why such games always have at least one of every major class type. The cutscenes are designed to split the difference, in this case favoring Shepard's ability with guns because they are universal across character types. The idea that this somehow breaks the game's visuals or is a problem unique to Mass Effect 2 is silly." @yogetoutdaway: Because no matter what class he is, he's still a highly decorated soldier. The truth is, you can't max out Shepard's abilities no matter what class he is. So having Grunt along with you, for instance, if you're a Soldier, still makes a difference depending on how his skills are upgraded (like, having one Soldier upgraded with squad incendiary).
I have to pick to play as a soldier in my main playthrough because it just annoys me that no-one makes any reference to you being an amazing biotic, or provide any further background on it. Like speaking with Kaidan in ME1 and ME2 in general.
In Mass Effect 1 they do mention(if your an Adept) that Kaiden has L2 implants and Shepard has L3(which are better) So the game acknowledges that hes a biotic on some level." Agreed. How is Shepard with maybe 20-30 years max of being a biotic be better than Samara who is an Asari to begin with and has centuries of experience? As for his clas specific abilities begin shown in-game, that would be cool but it doesnt bother me. Imagine how large the game would be and how much time and effort it would take, with all those different combos for every cut scene." @cheapandtacky said:
