at least add a "Discuss this", that way the mods won't lock this thread :P
But I'm amazed at how fast this got pirated, and how fast someone got busted.
But is this like a way to tell IW that people hates them more than they would hate anyone who raped their sisters?
" @Meteora: It's not entirely far-fetched. After all, you could probably trace the upload to a certain IP address, link that to somebody somewhere, and then invade their house with a battering ram. "Okay, that's cool, but most of the time they don't really bother with pirates. They kinda just ignore them for the most part.
" Holy shit, they caught a 360 pirate! Those guys don't even exist! "Well good luck finding a PS3 pirate, those guys really don't exist.
LOL @ Failpirate. Maybe next time, kid. That is, in 3-5 years with good behavior.
Tell Tiny on cell block D I said "whattup."
" Funny. He was only an idiot for getting caught. Otherwise he was filling a role that somebody else would have if he hadn't. "Naw. He was an idiot for selling it and for being stupid with his internet usage. If somebody got a hold of it and put it up for download through a proxy they would have been fine.
" Nice job. Pirates must die. "So most people who plays games and listen to music should die, eh? Everybody I know that's below the age of 30 has downloaded stuff illegally.
" @End_Boss said:I think people think they can justify their small p piracy (music, apps, porn, movie streams) by being extra loud about big P Piracy (games, DVDrips). I don't believe for a second that these "pirates must die" peeps have never downloaded an MP3." Nice job. Pirates must die. "So most people who plays games and listen to music should die, eh? Everybody I know that's below the age of 30 has downloaded stuff illegally. Dunno how it is in other countries but in Sweden almost everybody has illegal copies of games and music. "
I love this comment
"Everyone keeps sayin piracy is the problem in these situations where an 18 year old pirate is running an illegal fencing ring! Poo to that I say! People just don't understand that piracy has nothing to do with the buying of stolen goods, copying them, covering them with legit-looking labels and selling them through word of mouth out of your garage before they're officially released for $10! People keep saying piracy is the cause of piracy, which IMO just goes to show you what ignorant sheep Americans are and how they take it in the rear.
If people understood what the real problem was - namely greedy corporations who charge you money that mostly just goes into their massive game-making enterprises - they would understand that piracy is not the problem with the industry, it's the cure! This is evidenced by the massive move in the last 5 years toward game genres and game platforms with the most pirates! At least it would be, if there were any good and smart corporations, but they're all evil and stupid!
I know who's side I'm on! "
It made me chuckle :)
What astounds me most is that people think they have a "right" to pirate something if they don't think it's good enough for a purchase. Such as:
A. Infinity Ward will not include dedicated servers for MW 2 on PC.
B. This is something I, as a gamer, want. So...
C. I will pirate this game because it didn't live up to MY standards.
It's still theft. Luckily this guy got caught. Unfortunately thousands of PC pirates wont be.
" Sweet! A corporation is helping itself to protect its own revenue. Gamers definitely won today. "Yeah! Fuck corporations man! All they do is produce the games that you fucking buy!
" @Andorski said:I have no problem with Activision finding ways to ensure that they get paid for their services. I'm just curious as to why people are so happy about it. If by "how" you mean the method of distributing their games... I don't see how pirating has had that much of an effect. DRM issues for PC suck, but that is because most publishers are inept at protecting their own product. I personally like how Valve does it: have people download Steam. The log-in process helps prevent piracy and consumers just have to download a low system-resource application. As for consoles, pirated copies of games have had no affect on my XBL experience. People are playing pirated copies of 360 games every day and I haven't noticed a thing.
Also, "when" a game is released is an issue of marketing tactics, developer satisfaction of the product (at least when you are a major development team like IW), and the release dates of rival games.
GO PIRATES!
I am shocked, saddened, and ashamed of the GB community for it's anti-piracy stance. Pirates rule!
" Funny that it's the 360 version...At first I instantly thought PC but guess not. "no, nobody is going to even pirate the PC version because they know it is going to be crap :P it's mostly just going to be single player that people are going to play because it is pretty much going to just be a console version on the PC.

I have no problem with Activision finding ways to ensure that they get paid for their services. I'm just curious as to why people are so happy about it. I don't cheer when my local grocery store installed security cameras. You don't feel happy when a murderer is put behind bars? The problem is pirates definitely make gaming worse for all the legit paying customers. Maybe it's not a huge chunk, and maybe the end result wouldn't be companies releasing high quality or cheaper products, but every bit counts.
Thats good he got caught, people are paying $60 or more for the game and he sells it for cheap. Disgusting
What ticks me off is the attitude from certain creeds of gamers that don't like the idea of game developers and publishers making money. I was listening to a podcast in which a listener emailed the hosts about Cliffy B's expensive car collection and accused Cliffy B for ripping off gamers to support his collection.
Gosh the guy creates one of the most successful game franchises on the 360 (Gears) and is a creative director of a company that develops the industry's most popular game engine, (unreal) but because he has an impressive car collection proves that he's greedy and gamers shouldn't support him as a result of it.
Piracy is wrong and the argument, "Well I can't afford it," isn't good enough.
I'm always surprised and somewhat impressed by how fast pirates work at cracking and redistributing stuff. In this case I'm also pretty surprised by how strong the anti-piracy action seems to be against the pirating of Modern Warfare 2. Although on this particular occasion the guy doesn't seem to have been making a very big effort to hide his identity.
" @Andorski said:A bit of an extreme analogy, no? A person who pirated digital media versus a person who murdered a victim? And I don't buy the whole "pirates make companies use DRM, which sucks for legitimate customers," argument. It's like blaming the competitive work environment on why the stressful husband abuses his wife when he gets home.I have no problem with Activision finding ways to ensure that they get paid for their services. " @Kblt: He stole a crate of copies from a store. Theft. "Oh, I thought he pirated the copies and then burned onto a DVD. Illegal copying of files and then illegal distributing of said files without permission of the publisher, but if the case was that it's clear theft.
Someone else stole a crate of copies from a store. The guy who was caught (Christian Del Amo) bought a copy of the stolen game on a Xbox piracy forum and cracked the game. He was caught for selling moddedn 360's along with pirated copies of MW2." @Kblt: He stole a crate of copies from a store. Theft. "
