The sequel to 2007’s wildly successful first-person-shooter Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 continues the story of American and British soldiers fighting Russian ultra-nationalist forces.
Who ISN'T going to get this game on launch day?
I don't know if I'm going to get Modern Warfare 2. It's probably going to be a good game, no doubt about that, but I've already got myself a few new games here and their(Demon's Souls, Ratchet and Clank, Tekken 6, so forth and so on). I might pick it up sometime way later in the future but most likely....I won't be getting it at all.
I'll be getting it but it won't be until after January. I've got too many games to play and finish right now, so I've put the kibosh on my game buying until the new year. Just in time for Darksiders actually... might get that first.
" @Kazona: I'm not sure overpriced is the correct term to use. You are paying the same price as the console owners are for the same game. I know that it is 10 dollars more expensive than what you are USED to paying for, but it really makes perfect sense. "Actually it doesn't make sense at all. The reason why console games are more expensive than PC games is because of the license fee developers have to pay to either MS, Sony or Nintendo. The PC does not have any form of licensing, so there's no additional fee; that's why PC games have always been cheaper. This so-called licensing fee is how console makers earn a profit despite selling the hardware at a loss. The developers simply passes the additional cost of this fee of to the consumer.
To sum it up, a single copy of a $50 PC game makes the developer just as much money as a $60 console game. By raising the price, Activision is essentially making more money off of each copy sold for the PC than they are for the console version. The extra 10 dollars is completely unnecessary, and it's just a matter of greed on Activision's (and I believe IW as well) part.
I completely understand that a company is in the bussiness of making money, but there's a point at which that greed takes on despicable levels. In my eyes, Activision is a company that let its greed get to that point. The phrase, "they would sell their own grandmother if they could," aptly applies to that company.

It's not at all unnecessary.
Regardless, the $10 increase would be justified on increased development costs alone.
The only reason Activision has done these things is because they are the biggest player in the industry and they know they can get away with it. It has nothing to do with development costs, and everything with greed.
Edit: Regardless, if I buy the game, I'll be buying it used so I can be sure that Activision doesn't seem a dime of my hard-earned money.
I will not get it right away. I'm not sure which platform I will get it for, PC or 360. I've always played CoD on PC, but my friends always get the 360 version. Although I do have a copy of CoD2 on both. I don't like CoD multiplayer. CoD4 did have an amazing single player which really appealed to me except for the fucking infinite enemies.
It had to happen eventually, with the devalued US currency and increased production cost, IMO.
It's not that I don't want to get it, I cannot afford a damn thing right no so I will have to wait. Hoppefully just until Christmas.
No way. 5 hour uber-scripted campaign + P2P multiplayer + No Mods + $60 = Me being completly uninterested. There are tons of more interesting games coming out through the end of the year and into next year anyway.
I totally forgot this was releasing so soon. I was listening to the Joystiq Podcast when they mentioned during the MW2 conversation that it was releasing the 10th of November and I suddenly freaked out. I've not been following this game all that much because I want the experience to be fresh, but man, I even forgot to place a freakin' pre-order! I'll probably have to place one at Blockbuster or something during the week to make sure I get it day one!
I probably wont bother. If later down the line I'm craving a good fps single player experience I will get it when its cheaper. Otherwise I have way to many games to play already and DOA isnt even out yet, Not to mention the way the first quarter of 2010 is turning into. Not being a big FPS fan this game is gonna be put to the side for a while.
" @CitizenKane said:I think he's just pointing out it would be premature and silly of you to call one game better than the other if you haven't played them both.I didn't see Modern Warfare 2 there. I was at the Eurogamer Expo in London, if that was some poor attempt at trolling me. Star Trek Online and the new Super Mario was there though, they were pretty neat. "" @Gizmo said:
" Played Bad Comapny 2 today, the game is superior. "So you have played Modern Warfare 2 as well? "
I have been very excited about this game but the more I see from it, the less interested I am. Whether it be the PC debacle, FAGS video or recent terrorist airport scene leak, but Infinity Ward seems to be trying to work hard to unsell me on their game.
So, really, I am unsure whether or not I will buy it launch day or not.
Well if Console players somehow have fun, I should be able to have fun too. And I'll be playing with my friends mainly so I'll be getting it on Steam.
me because it is £45-50. Thats like 70-80 dollars or something. I can get games like littlebigplanet off amazon for like £10
ill probably get it along with assasins 2 on the 20th to save on shipping, Im playing brutal legend atm, and have uncharted 2, ratchet and dragons age coming in the next few days, so im sure at least one of them will hold me off (hell, dragons age would technically hold me off for months to be fair)...
...at the same time it will be annoying hearing people talk about it (the single at least, I dont plan on playing multi). in fact, because I dont play multi, theres really no rush to start playing it day 1
" Not only I'm not gonna buy it on launch day, I REFUSE to ever buy this game under any circumstances. By buying it, you're just telling Activision that fucking customers up the ass is cool. (and I'm not even a PC gamer) "
Yeah, you keep being idealogical like an idiot and miss out on what will probably be an amazing game while I'm busy fragging nublets.
I'll be taking my copy home right after I finish working the midnight.
I'm not, but I'll be getting it for Christmas. I had to decide between this and Borderlands, and I decided to take a gamble and support the new IP, woo rebellion.
