Motorhead is a futuristic racing game, originally released for PlayStation in Europe and North America in 1998, followed by a PC port released in Europe in 1998 and in North America in 1999. It was subsequently re-released via PlayStation Network in Europe in 2008 and in North America in 2013, as a part of the “PS One Classics” line – a version which was ultimately compatible with PSP, PS3, and PS Vita.

The game featured what was considered at the time to be very realistic physics. It came out at a time when the developer, DICE, was building up a reputation as a solid producer of racing games. Having left the older 16-bit platforms behind them they were also starting to show that, for them, crossing over to 3D wasn’t a problem – something that could be seen in their aptitude for creating 3D engines.

There are 10 fictional cars and 8 tracks set across futuristic landscapes and cyberpunk inspired cities, as well as one race set on Mars.

A novelty for those in Sweden was that one car-horn played the traditional Swedish call for gathering (the song of the Glassbilen) which could be used strategically to disrupt multiplayer races.
