The PC (Personal Computer) is a highly configurable and upgradable gaming platform that, among home systems, sports the widest variety of control methods, largest library of games, and cutting edge graphics and sound capabilities.
Good games for Christmas?
A few quick ones off the top of my head.
Fallout 3
The Witcher: Enhanced Edition
Far Cry 2
World of Goo
Prince of Persia (Out December 10th on the PC?)
Red Alert 3
Can't really tell much about your taste in games from four titles. Action games only? Competitive? Like the emphasis on multiplayer? L4D is probably the multiplayer game for me right now, but you might try one of the recent Call of Duty titles, or The Orange Box if your in for something with a lot of bang for your buck.
If your in the mood for something more intelligent, go for the "The Longest Journey + Dreamfall" pack on Steam. Bought it a little less than a week ago. The two games didn't last that long, but the stories held with in were extremely powerful, a great example of video games as the ultimate art form.
I'm also obligated (as one of the few supporters on this site) to point you to Mount&Blade, which can now also be found on Steam. Kind of like Pirates! but on land and with an emphasis on realistic combat and timing.
Are you new to PC gaming? There are a lot of older titles out there as well. In fact, for the PC there are simply a shit load of titles to choose from. The best of them might also not be the most visible. Don't be afraid to dig for real quality games.
Anything that released in the last three months.
That's not me being an asshole or smart-ass like usual. That's me saying that about 70% of the games released in the last three months have been spec-fucking-tacular, and trying to even narrow that list down is impossible in most means.

Don't bother with Far Cry 2.
The Witcher
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - This game will kick your ass all over the place, but if you dig atmosphere, you'll be happy to take the beating.
Audiosurf
Call of Duty 4
Peggle
Here's a few I recommend.
STALKER ( I haven't played Clear Sky yet but I know Shadow of Chernobyl is awesome)
Orange box
Company of Heroes
Supreme Commander / FA
The Witcher: Enhanced Edition.
Sins of a solar empire
Left4Dead
