@FunExplosions: A pc nowdays doesn't take that much power to run these games. You don't need a computer of epic proportions, which is good. I think having a high rez monitor helps to make the games look better, I was going to buy a new one yesterday, either 1080p or X1200, I decided not to.
For the thread, max payne games are on steam right now on sale.
@HitmanAgent47: Yep, bought 'em for I think like $3.79 or something. I was more angling towards the Crysis shots you posted. Can you really build a PC for 600 bucks that can run Crysis that well? (I'm pretty sure you've figured out by now that I don't know the first thing about building a comp)
@FunExplosions: It's a sliding scale as far as Crysis. My PC would cost you around $850 to build and I run most details very high, a few above very high (some LOD stuff). I run it at 1680x1050 with no AA and get about 20-35FPS average (a few parts it jumps up to 60fps range but that's fairly rare). No PC can run Crysis maxed out at 60fps steady.
@Diamond: Hmm. Well, how's your comp run Mass Effect? On my laptop I get pretty smooth gameplay at full settings (but with Film Grain and Vertical Sinc off). The only time my fps takes a crap is when I stumble out into the Presidium. It usually dips down to 20-something or lower, depending on how my computer wants to handle it. If you haven't played Mass Effect, then how's your comp run Bioshock/Mirror's Edge.

@FunExplosions: Haven't ever tried Mass Effect, only own it on 360. I've had problems achieving perfect smoothness with Unreal Engine 3 games sometimes because the engine doesn't seem to like Vista or Nvidia cards as much. I wouldn't ever drop below 30fps probably, though.
Mirror's Edge runs basically perfect 60fps with high AA/AF with PhysX off, but when I turn on those effects I can get dips into the 20-ish FPS range.

My 8800GT runs the game maxed out (excluding the SSAO setting) at an average framerate around 50fps. My PCs pretty good by anyone's standards but I think my GPU is holding it back from being considered high end these days.
Most capcom games are made on the pc first then scaled to consoles including the textures you don't always see if you look at the screenshots of other versions. The pc version actually runs past 100 frames per second at times, averagly 70. You wouldn't know it unless you own this game on the pc. Also it's not worth it for the sale at steam right now, still a bit expensive, can get it cheaper elsewhere.

Also, the PC version can run in DX10 mode which gives it better post process and render to texture (flames etc) effects.

Think of it as a more tactical game, where you can die really quickly if taken by surprise and where you are rewarded with money instead of killstreak bonuses in order to purchase better weapons.
@Mikemcn: Me neither, for modern warfare 2 you don't have to deal with recoil though. I'm going to get more modern warfare 2 screenshots later on, I was only posting c.s to make a reference for today's steam sale which I don't recommend unless ppl likes dying alot because alot of ppl there are really good at the game.
what are you talking about of course you deal with recoil in mw2, only you can compensate for it instead of that fucking random ass bullet spread in cs. cant stand that shit.
@Brutopian: You know exactly what i'm talking about, when you shoot something, you don't hit your target because of recoil which is realistic. Sure modern warfare 2 animates recoil, however you still hit whatever you are aiming at and playing it right now the bullet grouping is alot less.

Shattered Horizon, I got it when it was on sale for 5 dollars so I may not be the best judge of character. While it is very shallow(everyone uses the same gun, basically everyones a 'grunt', and you all have the same selection of grenades), it is also pretty looking, a different style of game, and very atmospheric. I'd see if you could find a guest pass before buying it.

It's much less realistic in MW2, but it's MW2 the game that Tom Clancy wrote.
