Love it, whole damn thing.
Portal 2
Game » consists of 20 releases. Released Apr 19, 2011
Portal 2 is the sequel to the acclaimed first-person puzzle game, carrying forward its love of mind-bending problems and its reckless disregard for the space-time continuum.
Are you bothered by the Portal 2 voice acting? (namely the British accent)
" It doesn't sound like a robot. It just sounds like a british guy talking normally through a voice filter. Its contrasts horribly with glados and the sentry turret voices. "It's a place holder
As long as they robot the voice up for the final game, I'm okay with it. As is, it just sounds way too human.
I fucking loved the VO, it was brillaint.
You're in an extremely dangerous, broken down laboratory still controlled by some insane robotic bitch and the only light you have in this bleak bleak world is just some normal English chap trapped inside a little sphere.
it's great. It's fucking perfect.
I realize that this thread is quite old. But I found it while actually looking for who does Wheatley's voice after beginning the game and loving his voice and knowing it was vaguely fammiliar. And this thread made me a tad angry. I made a profile just to reply to it.
Any who. Stephen Merchant born in Bristol, England is who does Wheatley's voice. He's been in moves such as; hot fuzz, run Fat boy run.
So no his English accent is not "forced" and he was not an "animator picking up voice acting slack" he is a real actor, and I am extremely suprised that no one here even bothered to attempt to look it up. It took me all of 3 minutes to find him.
What rubbish.
He's been in moves such as; hot fuzz, run Fat boy run.I used to like him before reading that (as the voice of Wheatly)
thanks for ruining that for me :(

The videos that were discussed in this thread were from before Merchant was cast, when Valve used a placeholder voice provided by one of their animators who happened to be British.
Sport.

This thread is based on this video:
Not Stephen Merchant.
This thread's pretty hilarious if you're British because Stephen Merchant is also British, his accent isn't faked at all.
Plus he's awesome.
why the fuck would anyone be bothered by Stephen Mercahnt! he was brilliant in that game!
edit: fuck, this topic is ancient.
second edit: wow, the voice acting in that video is actually kind of terrible. ie. not Stephen Merchant. but I guess it was supposed to be placeholder anyway? I purposely paid no attention to any videos or stories about this game leading up to its launch.
sorry

It's not that hilarious, because this thread is about an early trailer that used a different voice actor.
