The Boardwalk Fries in my mall used to have vinegar in the little condiments thing. Ive always thought it was weird, but not unheard of.

I dont think its quite fair to base your opinion of the game because you got stuck. In KH the fight with Riku (before or after Maleficent, I cant remember.) I got horribly stuck because i rushed through and was definitely not a high enough level. I started the whole game over, prepared, and climbed the wall i was stuck at and because i did this is one of my favorite games of all time.
 
As for combat, FFXII is iffy. The games battle system takes some serious getting used to. I for one had to start the game over three times to make sure I understood the mechanics and after knowing what i needed to be doing with the combat i found it to be quite fun and deep.  

I will agree with a few people and say yes this does not feel like a FF game, but only because the story is less character driven, which has always been a large part of the FF series. 
 
If i were you I would go back and try to appreciate the game for what it is instead of relating it to other FF games and try and be a little more patient with the combat, you may enjoy it more.
