Pontiff for me was the best fight, but Lord of Cinder has the lore importance and music going for him.

Weird, but in that case it should mean Dagger Devil, where a devil uses daggers, while Devil Daggers talks about daggers specific to devils. German is weird, but that is my gut feeling reading that transcript.

Masters of Doom does indeed mention that Dolchteufel (German for Devil Dagger) was considered as a title for Wolfenstein 3-D. The Devil Daggers dev could have chosen this name all on his own and this is a total coincidence, but it definitely seems plausible that they read the book and chose the name because of it. Here's an excerpt from Masters of Doom which I highly recommend everyone read:

The title came after much brainstorming. At first they assumed they had to use something other than the Wolfenstein name, which had been created by Silas Warner at Muse Software. Tom banged out a list of options from the strained–The Fourth Reich or Deep in Germany–to the absurd–Castle Hasselhoff or Luger Me Now. He even played around with some Germantitles–Dolchteufel (Devil Dagger), Geruchschlecht (Bad Smell). To their surprise and relief, they discovered that Muse had gone bankrupt in the mid-1980s, and let the trademark on the Wolfenstein name lapse. It would be Wolfenstein 3-D.

Yeah, English is a major bonus. Just read the transcripts from the Legacy of Kain games and see how many times you'll have to go for a dictionary. It's fantastic.

Other than that, a lot of the Sierra city builder games taught me a bit about the cultures they were set in, especially the different pantheons.

Civ teaches us pretty well how starting resources shaped our history.

I wish for them to try and outdo Levine and shame the industry with a better way to tell a story. Although I don't think Infinite deserved all the lip service at the time, it was at least a step towards even better story telling. I can't say this for sure, but maybe more subtle changes in character narration based on what your character is doing like Firewatch would be cool. Though I haven't played that yet to be sure if they pulled it off well.

Combat-wise I think just improve in general, but there's no shortage of ideas there. Infinite wasn't that interesting a shooter in the end.

While relevant it doesn't paint the entire picture. GPUs perform a lot of floating point operations so yes the more the better, same goes with memory bandwidth, however it depends on the task. This is why not all games receive the same improvement from newer cards and why AMD cards were very good for bitcoin mining, but just ok for games.

Also of note is APIs. DirectX 12, if memory serves, saw a good improvement on AMD cards even tho they were worse at DirectX 11. Maybe it's because they are collaborating more since the Xbox One uses an AMD APU or the AMD architecture is starting to pay dividends. In any case that is why benchmark sites are a thing.

@lawgamer: @mrcraggle: @musai: @ydross: so a pattern seems to emerge, confirming what a friend who used to work for Sony told me. game testing the way the industry sees it is just people who play the game and report bugs. Basically "black box" testing.

I bring this up because tester in software is a bit more complex than that and I wonder if game studios have officially hired "game software testers". If anyone knows, I'd like to hear about it. Traditional software development has this same problem where they only have devs that test their own code and not peers who know how to code will write test code, unit tests etc, but at least it's acknowledged and I do know a handful of people who are professional software testers. Is the same true for games?

Regardless of the outcome, it will anger half the population.

I vote yes as a European, mostly because I think it's not worth it for the UK to leave as they have the most special snowflake status anyway. My other worry is that the exit is just part of a powergrab.

I am morbidly curious to see Brexit too, to see how well the UK can recover and what the EU does in case it does happen as I think it needs to be tested and prove itself more. But maybe with the recent Grexit drama and all the refugees it's not the most opportune time to test it.

Even if they do exit, we might just get into a cycle of exits and re-entries as I think which the UK can afford unlike other EU members.

Congratulations!

Once again, it's about who you know, not what you know.

If it had been coding I would 100% disagree. What this tells me is that this game producing @epicsteve job landed is something that you can't study for and which Dave Lang seems to think he can develop in their new hiree.

So yeah, @epicsteve, congrats and also be prepared. I come from more traditional software development so I think you'll be in charge of meeting targets, resolving conflicts and keeping people motivated, probably also being a buffer between your company and partners/client. So yeah, there's probably enormous benefit you can bring them if you keep an open mind.

Hmm I wonder why Microsoft didn't get it then. I guess you could say that Sky being in the first part of the word would make people confuse it at a glance?

Wonder if Skyrim and City Skylines faced similar secret lawsuits.
