Just from DS1 and 2

Hardest: NG+7 Elana, the summoning aspect make it incredibly difficult in later NG. Second might be Smelter Demon again in later NGs if you are a melee build, because of his chip damage flame buff.

Easiest: Pinwheel and Ceaseless if you cheese him.

Best: Sir Alonne, Sif, O&S

@ntm: i forget what the melee strategy with her was. there was more rolling than usual, no lock on, i did not try to take more than one swipe at her and I think i ignored velstadt. the rest was just keeping up healing. i think it's also a bit easier if she summons the skeletons instead of velstadt. i think this boss fight was more about camera management than anything else.

@ntm: Unlike the first game with Artorias of the Abyss, where it was sort of obvious when you could go to Oolacile (it's basically accessible the moment you kill the crystal golem in Dukes Archives), DS2 just straight up gives you the quest items and the bonfire warp, meaning you can go at almost any time.

They did do something neat with each DLC, though. Even if you didn't own the DLC, you could travel to the beginning of each area and leave your sign down in front of a statue to take part in a specific co-op area in each DLC and fight a (usually terrible) optional boss. Sunken King has its 3 on 3 match, Iron King is... uhh... Smelter Demon 2.0 (now in blue!), and Ivory King is the weird snowstorm area that I never actually did. It was kinda neat as a preview and didn't lock people out entirely of playing in the DLC. Folk could even invade too.

Not in Scholar of the First Sin, the keys have to be found in that version.

This is a really weird situtation Sony found itself in. It could not have not released the initial PS4 2013, but it also can't stand in the way 10nm starting production in late 2016, or at least the cost of that seems to not be worth it in Sony eyes. I wonder if Sony seems more eager on the Neo because of their domestic competition with Nintendo who is also rumoured to switch from PowerPC 45nm.

But yeah, tech is weird and game consoles seems to be entering the fast lane. Wonder if on board car computers will eventually follow.

From the description I'd say this is a good first or second job. The tech used is pretty relevant and it seems to be a fun environment. Not enticing enough for me to relocate across the pond, but I'm also jealous of whoever will get this.

Whoever you are new GB West duder, demand during your interview that you'll only sign up if you get to host the MUD and Quake servers!

@bollard: Yeah good point on two factor authentification and you're right on it being easily avoidable. I think that is a decent mitigation of the issue, but I think there are people with access to multiple phone numbers, even multiple credit cards that would still smurf. (see also: midlife crisis)

Competitive games are a weird case where you could play only with friends to elimiate this, but you ideally want new challengers constantly.

Other:

  1. City Builders like the Sierra ones: Pharaoh, Zeus, Caesar, Emperor
  2. God Games: Black & White 1 (VR just seems built for this!)

Arcade sports game like Tony Hawk that are good and have a great license soundtrack would also be cool, but I think that genre might not be dead.

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2

I wonder how many people will shared this with me, but for me it is the Legacy of Kain series, specifically Soul Reaver 2.

The story and voice acting stand up to me. The fact that they brought in people to record their lines together. A time travel story with paradoxes as a central theme. The theatrics of the cutscenes, the vibrant language and the lore of the world ...

The series doesn't hold up today gameplaywise, will probably never see a continuation or remake and was f'd in the a because of the free to play "Nosgoth", but man do I still love and think about it to this day. I still wish to find that game that uses that kind of storytelling and delivery. I see bits and pieces in some games, usually close to the end, but it almost always seems too hammy.

I replay Soul Reaver 2 at least once a year, I've analyzed it over and over, talked for years with people about it, memorized the lines like people like to memorize Resident Evil for it's funny delivery. One of the reasons I actually joined GB was that in one of the mailbags, Jeff and Ryan notice and seem pretty excited about Blood Omen 1 CD. I know it's a shallow reason, but it got me thinking "man, these guys are alright".

Other runner ups for me is: Journey (the emotions and music), Dark Souls 1 (the buttclentch), Undertale (the music and humor), The Longest Journey (again fantastic story) and Morrowind (the world). I'd also add Black & White 1 on that list for how unique it was for me.

I think having a definite favorite is not a bad thing, but do not let it hold you in the past. Give other things a try and remember, for growing gamers today, some new game will be their "Zelda" or their "Metal Gear Solid", don't besmirch it because those older games did it first and let's give game makers that grew up with your favorites a chance to shine too.
