Most "kickstarter" like things I'm all for supporting, but I don't usually pay more than I would for a normal game. This one however, I could totally swing putting in above and beyond for. These games meant so much to me as a kid.
Don't misunderstand me, I was all up for paying a subscription to Jeff and those guys when I thought they needed my dosh, but I can safely say that CBS does not.
Anyone is free to cancel for whatever reason they like, but if this is the logic people use then when CBSi looks at the sties that bring in the most/least in the future it would leave GB on the chopping block.
Money. The whiskey media folks were more open than others about subscriber numbers (remember the GB world tour?) and relative percentages of visits, etc. Essentially when you run the numbers and take some guesses at staffing costs then numbers didn't really show a hugely profitable/growing business.
I think it was less about someone "cashing out" on the business and more about "these people do good things, where can we put them in a better financial situation so they can keep doing it as a team."
I guess we will never know, but I doubt the original goal of Whiskey was to start up with the goal of selling in X number of years. Things just didn't blow up for them the way they had hoped.
I'm a little sad to see tested break off from Giantbomb, but I'm not super worried about the content coming from the guys. However, I'm more worried about what happens to the wiki content since the platform is being sold to the company that will run tested/screened/anime
