@jeff is that a Yeti you're having trouble with? I have one and it does weird stuff with gain all the time too. Check to see if your USB cable has moved, it's *really* sensitive to sound leak and I'm pretty sure I've tracked changes in audio quality to me moving the USB for one reason or another. When my Yeti works it's great, but it's so finicky that I'm considering trying something else.
