GOTY 2013

So here's my list. It's worth noting that I haven't purchased one of the new consoles or played several of the major releases from this year: The Last of Us, A Link Between Worlds, Assassin's Creed 4, DmC, Dead Rising 3, Gunpoint, Killer Instinct, or Antichamber.

List items

  • I didn't find this to be as good as the first Bioshock game, but it was still strong enough to be my game of the year. I love the story as well as the graphics and art style. The game play was fine, but I missed things from the original game like hacking turrets/cameras and carrying multiple weapons.

  • Am amazing game. The attention to detail continually blew my mind, and switching between three main characters was a stroke of genius.

  • The Tiny Tina DLC came out this year, so I'm getting this game on my list again. I loved it, and spent hundreds of hours in Pandora through 2012 and well into 2013.

  • I've found that I'm not terribly fond of roguelikes or roguelike-likes, but allowing me to maintain some kind of progression as I explored each new castle with each new character really attracted me to this game. I loved it.

  • Here's a game that I haven't actually completed yet. As others have said, it feels slightly derivative of the third game, but it's still a blast to play.

  • Another game that I haven't completed yet. That said, I'm enjoying it immensely.

  • I thought this was a great puzzle game with an incredible art design. It was also short enough that I didn't feel burnt out on it by the end, and in fact, I would have liked a few more puzzles.

  • This was a good game. I'm not sure it was quite as good as some folks make it out to be, but I enjoyed it - the graphics were superb, the mechanics were solid, and the story was good. The "puzzles" were all just a little too easy for my taste.

  • I love what this game is going for. I played it when it first came out, and it had some rough spots which I believe have been patched. This is on my "go back to this again" list.

  • What an unusual game. I liked it, but I didn't want to play it. The idea, execution, and the look of the game are all fantastic - I just have to work up the nerve to get through it.

  • Honorable mention: I found it fun and relaxing to drive cargo around Europe without trying to speed, shoot, outrun cops, locate stunt jumps, or any of the other stuff that I do in most other games.
