My favorite 2022 games

These are either games I played for the first time this year, put a lot of time into them or finished for the first time, or games I've continued to play throughout the year. I've left off the FFVII remake which I'm not quite finished with and also Darktide which is not finished.

List items

  • Hard to say anything more about this game that hasn't already been said. Love the return of a bunch of mechanics from dark souls 2, the best in the series.

  • FINALLY. Turns out this game is incredible wow. Still need to go through the DLC but in terms of atmosphere and world Elden Ring only beats it out in terms of scale but the razor focus of this game is amazing. Lesson learned, don't go to England.

  • Turns out I still love turning giant monsters into hats, unfortunately mostly played solo but the time I had was very very good. Excited for the new mainline release in the series as a follow up to world.

  • Oh man, this was my Sid Meier's "one more turn" game of the year. Hours disappeared in seconds and I consistently blew past any reasonable hour I should have gone to bed. Less replayability than I would have guessed but running through the scenarios is incredibly satisfying.

  • Had previously only gotten to trains and given up in a huff, finally launched some rockets in multiplayer and was so much fun. Can't wait to come back and do it all over again but this time in a slightly less spaghettis way.

  • With my computer out of comission for some time this year, I got to go through some of my playstation backlog and man this game was a treat. Very difficult but fighting the valkyries were some of the most satisfying fights and the setpieces were magnificent in presentation and scale. I wish the RPG aspects were a little better fleshed out but that's just nitpicking in a masterpiece

  • Turns out this classic game is classic for a reason. Amazing bare bones game that's presentation is a real treat. A part of gaming history I'm glad I got to experience

  • I physically was a sweaty nervous wreck any time I finished playing 9/10 would recommend.

  • This game is an incredible work that would not be possible without gamepass. A historical murder mystery with some of the best presentation and art I've seen. The pains it takes to represent accurate historical components is astounding.

  • Yet another great Arkane game, I wish it was given a better chance to flourish by Bethesda behind the scenes. The tech and manipulation of alien powers is so so good and I need to finish a second playthrough sometime.

  • Rock and Stone, closing in on 400 hours with my last steam achievements and the support and development of this game is so incredibly consumer friendly and FUN.

  • Anime Waifu Honey collector 2020 is still alive and well and with major updates this year it has been really fun exploring and building up a variety of teams. We'll see if I get bored this year without any meaningful endgame content but I'm enjoying the ride.

  • I went back and put it a ton of time in this game, trying to get wins with the A and B versions of all the ships (not quite there have 3 more ships to go Stealth B, Slug B, and Engie B) and man this game is punishing but incredibly satisfying to get right. Still holds up. Especially with some quality of life mods.

  • No one has beaten this game not even me, we just share the same completed screenshot around the internet. Gave this a go when it came out but really tried again and got through it this year. Very fun, someday I'll take a look at the dlc but platform shooters aren't my thing.

  • Boss rush bullet hell designed to be sped run? Holy crap this game was fun, the aesthetic is great and the combat is incredibly satisfying. Missed out on the beating the fastest developer by 5 minutes :(

  • Having played this game multiplayer at level 1 with my high level friends I wrote this off initially. Came back and man it is a slow ramp up but it gets to really fun and interesting places. Didn't finish the story but I understand why this game developed the cult following it did.

  • 2017 was a big ol' baby and I FINALLY FINISHED THIS GAME SUCK IT. It didn't affect me as much physically as alien isolation but man mentally I was a mess playing this.

  • Really fun X files games with okay combat and some really interesting visuals. Pretty fun popcorn game. Excited to see what they do with the sequel

  • Incredible oppressive atmosphere and gameplay with amazing art. Wasn't able to finish but highly recommend to people that like survival horror.

  • Really interesting keyboard driven mystery/horror using console commands and puzzles to get through. Not a long game by any means but very enjoyable.

  • Towards the end of last year I had gone through a few metroidvanias and so this year I popped on guacamelee and it was fun! reminds me of all the old flash games I used to play.

  • I fell off after getting a "max" level character in the initial release which is in no way representative of the game at present. Was fun and had fun combat but the grind and character management really bounced me off of it.

  • Trash. Only reason I played it was going through my steam library. This is just a PT rip off which led to Bloober team getting to work on silent hill. Boo
