Tough to say. I hate a lot of genres on a base level, yet I can't think of any genre where there aren't at least a couple games in it that I enjoy...maybe basketball and Football sport sims? But at this point that's just me saying "I dislike NBA 2K15 and Madden"...

I'm bored and feeling micro-manage-y.

I'm also broke and short on games available at the moment.

So what are some good free online RPGs and/or strategy-type games they got on them interwebs? Or iOS. That works, too.

@jessemoforice:

Honestly, screwing and doing whatever you want is pretty much the reason GTA is so successful. Seriously, for years I didn't even know people even bothered with the singleplayer. The real fun was always just using cheats and seeing what you could accomplish within the game's world. And honestly, if that's how you're having fun, I don't see why it needs to be more than that. It's just a game, after all.

'Course, if you're looking for strict objectives and a feeling of accomplishing goals that are set down for you, yeah, GTA Online's not that great. The missions and glitches are usually pretty frustrating, and outrunning the cops is incredibly hard, meaning that most of your fun and games are gonna end badly. It's not for everyone, but it's definitely good for those looking for a big world to test your limits in like a big toddler. :P

Anybody here have any opinions on Knights of Sidonia?

I liked it quite a bit. Then again, I love mecha anime, and Sidonia was the first one in years that actually attempted hard sci-fi. It had a lot of interesting details to its world and story. My only problem was that some of those details were weird and sort of just there. Like, why was the chef a bear? I mean, they explain why she's a bear, but I mean...it didn't seem to have any sort of relevence to the overall plot...she was just a bear...

...but that's mostly nitpicking. I definititely suggest trying it out. I also don't feel like it's anything like Attack on Titan outside of some vague, superficial similarities, just to mention...

No. Because I'm only going to beat a game once (...assuming I beat it at all...), and it's gonna suck if I put in all that effort only to get a sucky ending. :(

I don't exactly force myself through a game if I'm not enjoying it, but I do periodically give those games second (or 6th, depending on the game...) chances to see if I'll change my mind....mostly because my enjoyment of a game is at least 95% reliant on my mood...

I've been having trouble getting myself to play games for a solid month now, so I'm thinking a game a pick up and play game would be a good way to kick start my gaming mojo - you know, a game I could easily get into and play in short bursts while still feeling like I'm making progress. Something with fairly simple controls and short levels, and hopefully having a gradual difficulty curve so I don't get discouraged right off the bat like when I recently tried Super Meat Boy and OlliOlli.

Oh, and no forced play limits, like in, say, Candy Crush: Pokemon Edition. Seriously, that was the last game I spent a significant amount of time with, and now I haven't been able to enjoy games for a month. I can't help but feel those events are related...

Problem is I don't seem to have many games that fit that description, unless I'm missing something. I'd love some suggestions if you guys have any. I'll take anything from any genre or modern platform (excluding the Xbox One and Android platforms), as well as most older platforms so long as it's not too rare or expensive (if I have to spend more than $30 before shipping, I'm probably overspending) excluding the original Xbox (I need to get one of those someday...) and anything older than the NES.

...TL;DR

  • I'm looking a pick-up-and-play game
  • Easy controls, short levels, not too hard, at least at the start
  • No freemium style play limits or arcade style "start whole game over after so many deaths"
  • Any genre or platform (excluding Xbox 1 and Xbox One) will be accepted so long as the price is right

I'm getting desperate. Please help. :P
