As a fantasy RPG fanatic I have to chime in on Dark Souls. It's not a bad game but it could have used some more player feedback during its' development.

First of all, the game starts off very slow just teaching you basic moves, then literally a minute later you fight a 50ft, 5 ton boss who kills you with 2 strokes of a gigantic hammer. Anyone who claims to have not died at least 7 times before the very first boss (without consulting a walkthrough) is simply full of crap.

Here is my review of Dark Souls.

The game literally takes the thin line between fantasy and VIRTUAL REALITY and not only blurs it but ignores it completely. When you play this game you literally feel as helpless as a Homeless Man in HELL.

Without a strategy guide you stand 0% chance of winning. Period. Even with the strategy guide it's still hard.

I give it credit for one thing: Since it is so hard you actually feel great when you defeat a boss but the problem is the feeling never lasts because less than a minute late you either get burned to a crisp (OUT OF NOWHERE) or fall of a cliff and lose all your souls.

Now for a hardcore gamer who doesn't mind spending 4 hours on ONE level of a game and likes repeating the same level OVER AND OVER then this is the game for you. If you like torture and punishment this is the game for you.

It's a classic
Brought a spoon to a gunfight game.

Now, the positive. The graphics are amazing. The interface and controls are pretty intuitive where you have good control over your character. Still, the story is a but bland. You never really know why a demon just sits in a room waiting to kill you in .0003 seconds. The NPC characters are solemn and the game is simply frustrating and depressing. Also, it's not just the demons that are hard, you die VERY easily in this game if you don't target and parry your enemies properly and you can get surrounded VERY easily just for one mess up. (ie rolling into the ground and going nowhere, swinging and hitting a WALL!)

This was my experience. I literally had trouble navigating to the first demon because I didn't realize the boulder trap made a hole in the wall behind me which you need to go through to get a key. (DUH!) stupid me.

Then it took me about 3 hours to beat the first demon, I used a pyromancer and a few firebombs and rolled and chucked until he eviscerated.

So now I'm like cool, maybe it'll get better.

Boy was I wrong.

As far as the Taurus Demon, once you master that plunge attack he's easy as king hippo in Mike Tyson's Punchout, but even after you beat him, YOU DIE ANYWAY because the dragon burns you, and you lose 8000 souls! The only way to level up your character!

So then you're like forget this, I'm busting out the strategy guide. and you literally spend more time researching the strategy guide than you do playing the game which saps ALLLLL the joy out of it.

It's hard for me to say Dark Souls is a GOOD game. But I won't say its awful. It's just now my thing.

I loved Dragon Age Origins, was a little letdown by DA2 and right now I'm having a love affair with Dragon's Dogma, I think Dragon Age Origins and Dragons Dogma and Halo are the way games are supposed to be. Difficult but beatable, fluid gameplay, and an ESCAPE from reality.

The best way I could sum up Dark Souls is like they put PEE WEE HERMAN into the Crusades and he's armed with his sense of humor against 1 million MUSLIMS for the battle of jerusalem.
