Gaming sequels never to come

We all have them and we all know what games spring to mind whenever somebody asks you. You play a game and sink sweet, precious, valuable time into it until you conquer it. Watching the credits roll you ponder at the thought of a sequel to the game so you can return to the world you sank many hours in. Maybe the game even sets up a sequel at the end of the game giving you, even more, reason to be excited. You wait until the dreaded day comes when you realize there is no sequel coming. This can be for many reasons like bad sales, studio shutting down, it was in development then ended up getting canned. Well, today ladies and gents I wanted to give you the games I know won't be getting a sequel that breaks my gamer heart.

Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy: One of my favorite games coming out of the ps2 era as a kid Psi-Ops blew my mind. You play as Nick Scryer and you wake up with no memory trying to take down the evil organization known as The Movement. It was your standard third person shooter with one exception you possessed access to awesome psychic powers. With its tight controls and cool ragdoll physics creating some hilarious gameplay when you would telepathically slam people into walls, explosive barrels, or drop them off a ledge hearing them scream until they inevitably die. You could burn people with pyrokinesis, mind control enemies to solve puzzles or turn them onto their fellow squadmates, mind drain opponents to cause their head to explode, remote viewing to see through walls and scout out rooms, and aura viewing to see invisible mines and fight aura beast. Using these powers you fight your way through The Movement's head honchos and defeat the general effectively saving the world. You are treated with an endgame cutscene that ends with this message.

The kid in me still wonders what happens after that screen to this day. With Midway closing and nobody taking the rights for the game and I will always have to live with the fact that I won't be getting any closure for this game especially for something with so much potential.

Heavenly Sword: A title which many may have missed out on due to a struggling Ps3 in it's beginning years. Heavenly Sword is a third person action game where you play as Nariko battling the tyrannical Bohan and his army from wiping you out and creating a golden era. You take hold of powerful sword aptly named after the title of the game to combat him and trying to save your village. Being this was Ninja Theory's second game and first, as Ninja Theory, formerly known as Just Add Monsters, it came as a surprise to me that it was actually really good. The world was interesting and the setting was different being more of a traditional eastern vibe to it. The soundtrack added to that feeling sounding like something you would hear in an old kung-fu movie. The combat was so smooth and fun to play with switching from the three combat styles of fast ranged attacks, medium dual bladed, and one large heavy blade. There were plans to have a sequel, but it was announced in 2010 the game was canceled due to poor sales from the first game and the developer later stating that a sequel was "extremely unlikely". Due to the Ps3 not having the greatest launch year most folks didn't get a chance to play this gem and its a shame. Maybe if Sony did a better job with the Ps3 launch we could have a sequel to an underrated game and return to this interesting world Ninja Theory built.

What are some of your games that you know will never get a sequel? Do you think it will happen eventually? Also, what did you think of the games above and do you think they should get a sequel as well. Let me know and as always have a nice day.

@mrbgone: Mannnnn, fuck Ubisoft for that tease last year only for it to turn into a DLC for their dumb bike game. I was watching it with my gf at the time and I lost my shit when I heard the music. Then they flip flopped and said it was DLC and I broke down. I was comforted but my heart was broken. Thanks for reminding me of Ubi's betrayal. Fuck those guys.

I just replayed Alan Wake and i loved it, i feel like Remedy have gotten away from the direction and style of games that they are great at, Quantum Break is still a third person shooter but it lacks all the character of their previous games, in favor of real life actors who are real life actors in real life, they even filmed them in real life to prove it.
There was actually an Alan Wake 2 in production which you can find early footage of on youtube.

Now wait, don't, please, hear me out!
It doesn't have to be a direct sequel to Perfect Dark Zero, but... confession time, i really really liked PDZ, remember this is before first person shooters were well and truely figured out on consoles (sans Halo... i guess), i came from PC gaming but didn't have the money to upgrade my PC so the 360 became my primary platform, and this at the time was a really incredible looking game. I have a deep love for the original Perfect Dark, so being able to play the 'sequel' on the latest and greatest console was very memorable... and then my Xbox red ringed 5 minutes into the game.
Side note, there really should be a PC port of this, if only to improve the frame rate and aiming.

Square Enix is currently only really interested in speaking the words Final Fantasy these days and that's awesome for fans of that franchise, that unfortunately doesn't include me because i'm too hip to be (a) square (fan). I feel lots of people have that "I didn't even know what a JRPG was" game they played when they were young, i guess Vagrant Story was that for me, i restarted the game many times as a kid just to watch the intro cutscene play out, then played until the game got 'hard', which for my young and simple mind wasn't very far, i'm a little worried that if i play it now and dislike it the importance i place on the game will be lost, but enough people rate it highly so i guess i shouldn't worry.

The fact that Fire Emblem had an entire direct dedicated to it is basically just confirming that I'll never have another Advance Wars :(

My exact thought. Not even for story reasons; it's been so so long since I played FS2 I barely remember anything (except the Sathanas; that beast is burned into my brain) but just to see these sorts of ships and their mighty beam battles again.

I would love to see a second Enslaved Odyssey to the West. That was a really good game that you never hear anyone talk about

Legend of Dragoon 2. It wasn't amazing but it was as close as any company outside of Square came to aping what made PS1 Final Fantasy games well liked. C'mon Sony.

Oh hell, Yes. A Legend of Dragoon 2 would've been great. Sony had it in the works but they canned it early on after Shu Yoshida left Japan Studio.

A new Breath of Fire game. Nothing like 5 or 6, that mobile game.

Chrono Break. The 3rd game in the Chrono Series, even tho the first 2 weren't really closely connected as people had hoped it'd be.

A new Grandia sequel, set in the world of Grandia II.

@lostoddity: I enjoyed it for what is was and would like a sequel to explain more of what we saw at the end of the game? I dislike unresolved cliffhangers they make me sad :(

Resonance of Fate was messy but had some really rad, unique combat (like if the Matrix was turned based) and I would love to see them expand on it.

The Last Remnant is similar in that while it was SUPER ROUGH it had some really cool ideas.

Also, while we may still get another Darksiders, I'm not super confident it'll be the kinda game we want.

I want a sequel to Max Payne 3. Not because of story reasons. Max Payne has been through enough and it would probably be better to do a spiritual successor. No, the reason I want a sequel is because I find the game much more appealing than Rockstar's open world comedies. But I know there will never be another Max Payne. The masses have spoken. 70 million of them.

I would at least like something like it. Give me a hard boiled shooter like that. I have loved how all three games played and I think 3 is a fantastic feeling shooter.

Yeah, I don't know why there aren't more third-person shooters like John Woo's heroic bloodshed movies. Their style is made for video games. I want the extreme violence, the moody music and atmosphere, the focus on story, the balletic dual-wielding gunplay, and the extravagant debris and destruction. Done right, it would be a dream come true.
