For those interested to hear about the game and its ending from the director himself, Kinda Funny did a Last of Us 2 Spoilercast w/ Neil Druckmann, Ashley Johnson, Troy Baker on Youtube. I found it a little helpful to hear some of Druckman's intentions for the game. I dont know if plugging other content on GB content is a no no. Im not even a big Kinda Funny fan but hearing directly from the horse's mouth helped me understand what exactly this game was supposed to be going for instead of what I took out of it.
As far as this spoilercast, it was interesting to hear everyones takes on the game. The takeaway is that I dont think this game was fully successful at giving the player the intended effect through playing the game. Seems like what the staff left with after playing the game is kinda all over the place, which maybe shows that this game's story was a little too complicated and not as clear with it's messaging.
The game was fine but I agree with Vinny that I think TLOU 1 had a clearer message and effect on the player than TLOU2 and is the better game storywise. I thought this game was fine but it definitely isnt one of my favorite games like the first one was. After finishing it, I started it again, thinking it would flesh out the story a little more, but after maybe two hours in I stopped and never looked back. Watched that Kinda Funny Spoilercast and haven't thought about it since.
It's interesting coming back all these years later to see this now. Also funny how some things never came to the xbox one and how its a fundamentally different system now. I dont remember doing matchmaking while using other apps ever came to the console. Also all that EA footage was fake and the cloud stuff, at least the way they explained it, never actually happened. I just now wonder what things the series X and PS4 have said this year that will never happen.
No one is going to see this but I disagree with Jeff about Sekiro and adding difficulty options. I dont know if this is true but from my perspective, the souls games are all about stepping up and fighting, hitting a wall over and over until you beat it. Its about stepping up and believing in yourself and realizing that you can do it. That's what they have all been about, in my mind, and making it easier for people who feel like they can't do it is taking away from the fact that they can do it. Its a matter of how hard are they willing to work to get past this obstacle. I mean, if its too hard, and the game fails, then thats on From Software and they made a bad choice and I suppose the game will fail but I appreciate them making games that make the player decide, I can beat this, most players can if they try hard enough, I just need to put in the work to get past the mechanics of this specific game to move forward.
Hey, did I miss an episode where they got to the last boss before this episode? Its the first time Im seeing him and they had strategies and everything for the fight.
