If the formalized process isn't working at points when a fairly low level of research and sourcing would show there's value to the complaints then there is an issue with it.
Would Abby stumble on this beforehand and manage to puzzle it out? Probably not. I mean we're struggling here as an community to clearly articulate what happened.
00:01:47 - The GOTY format has changed! The staff will spend the first podcasts talking about games they liked in release date order, while categories will get their winners at the end of the week.
Thanks :) Finally we have a proper explanation of the new format outside of the video/podcast.
Posting two-and-a-half years after release (but a short time after a Steam sale) to report that, no, the EFIJ control scheme never becomes intuitive, even when paired with WASD, and that though the game is fun overall, isometric ice puzzles that require precise movement are a spectacularly bad idea.
I got the game in the said sale as well and just had my first encounter with those ice puzzles and boy howdy they are hot garbage.
I played a fair bunch of this game shortly after its release. Just like the first one, it sadly overstays its welcome. My initial excitement about the ballsy humor and the amazing map design slowly fizzled away until I eventually bounced off the game completely.
I believe Cyanide has a general pacing problem. They could not keep me invested for more than a bunch of missions in two games now. They really need to tighten up the experience and reduce the amount of padding and map recycling.
The most noteworthy thing is something probably zero game journalists have touched on though... The VO talent is VERY sorely lacking this time around and it shows. This is a great demonstration of why you get professionals if you want quality.
Someone suggested in the forums that this might be related to the (ongoing?) voice actor strike. Would be a logical explanation, at least.
Thanks a bunch, that was my full original comment :) I just wanted to edit in the Beastcast note, slipped a bit to the right on the touchpad and *poof*
@the_atomic_dumpling: Probably not your full comment but I agreed with it so much that I'll repost it from the email notification sent from your reply to me:
"Best music" is the by far the most worthless category. "Best 20 second snippet that randomly happened to be showcased" is more like it. Instantly skippable.
